I've made this twice, just for me, so I've reduced the spices a lot. It's delicious, and freezes well for a ready meal. I'm American and an aficionado of Mexican and Tex-Mex food. I worked amongst Tex Mex people for 12 years and ate at their tables, and I can tell you with personal experience that Mexican food is much milder in the US. British Tex Mex is too hot, and though the Mexican natives love their 'pepino' which is Jalapeños, they tend to have it on the side of the plate. This dish is easy to adapt and makes it easy to have that flavour homemade. 😊

I used sweetcorn instead of beans (everyone hates beans in our house) and this dish was an absolute winner! My husband is walking around showing everyone his "food baby" and has eaten about 4 or 5 helpings. It's all gone! Even my fussy kids liked it. It goes well over baked potatoes too. This is definitely going on our regular recipe rotation.

This looks like dinner tonight! Thanks! You never let us down. 😌 I will have to replace passata with canned tomatoes, and am also curious if you have your own fajita seasoning or a preferred pre-made one that you purchase. They vary greatly by region here so I usually make a standard one for actual fajitas that I shall use.

Made this tonight had it in a seeded wrap with tomatoes and sour cream dip. Really tasty. Think i will put in 3 tablespoons of hot pepper sauce next time and make it a bit spicer. As i will definitely be making it again. So nice.

Dont drain mince?
@misterhat58235 ай бұрын
It's kind of optional for 10-15% fat. That 27% fat stuff we have over here just swims in grease.
@jakethesnake955 ай бұрын
Yeah, if your beef is really high-fat, you're better off draining it. My mom always taught me to reserve the fat in a bowl and let it solidify overnight so you can throw it away.

Speak for yourself. I call it ground beef.
@HenryJinxton5 ай бұрын
Interesting. I live in Pennsylvania, USA and we call it ground beef and usually index it beyond that, such as saying I would like ground sirloin, ground round, ground chuck, etc. The only people I know calling raw ground beef "hamburger" are from the silent generation and older where I live. 🤔
@kentonbrown9375 ай бұрын
I grew up in the Arizona-Sonora desert and this recipe deserves ridicule. Bell pepper? What makes this Mexican? Tex-Mex fajita seasoning? Generic hot sauce? Inappropriate black beans? Italian passata? A frivolous garnish of cheese, avocado, & cilantro? I don't doubt that this concoction tastes good, but, please, don't label it as "Mexican!"

Mexican Style - not Mexican authentic
@milkshake33505 ай бұрын
It's just basic, easy, fast, flavourful food which suits some people. Not everything has to be authentic.
@execbum15 ай бұрын
She didn't say it was Mexican. She has clearly labelled it 'Tex-Mex Style' which means not authentic Texan or Mexican but just vaguely in the Tex-Mex style. Why does there always have to be one idiot? If you don't like it, move on!
@djmelton45785 ай бұрын
Sorry, this is very far from Texan food, Mexican food, or Tex-Mex food. All three of those cuisine styles serve as umbrellas for many local styles, but never anything like this. Over-tomatoey, over-spiced, no delicate interplay of flavors, and highly likely to cause severe heartburn. I bet she also loads her Mexican rice with chili powder and maybe even chiles instead of using garlic, onion, and tomato. Come to Texas or Mexico and try the real thing.

Yeah, travel to another continent so that our kids don't get inauthentic dinners. Great advice there. smh 🙄 We don't care whether it's authentic, we just want easy, tasty recipes we can make quickly on a weeknight, that our children will eat and that only need ingredients we can easily get here in the UK.
@aboukirman35085 ай бұрын
@@execbum1 Yes, travel to Mexico and probably get murdered while trying out the authentic grub!!!😁
