Not sure what I was thinking but as far as using the tape/pin mod, you only need a piece over the Bsel2 pin which is the bottom piece of tape. The top one used isn't needed and only blocks the VSS(Ground). If this doesn't work you'd need to use a rear window defogger repair kit to connect the VSS pin to the Bsel2 pin, thus grounding it out. With just a piece of tape over it, the pin is floating..aka not ground and not positive. Most motherboards I found work fine this way however some may need both pins connected.

Core 2 and GT 1030 are a great combo. I used an E8600 with one and it was a great old game and emulation station for my living room. Sold the 1030, turned the machine into my samba, Plex, Jellyfin, and Pi-Hole server.

I just found ya Jim and enjoyed your content. My only dabble with a core 2 quads was later on when pricing was reasonable and snagged a Q9650. But I did find recently a working P45 chipset with Intel E8600 and 4 gigs of ddr2 ram. I mostly went AMD CPU's after my first Gaming rig was a intel 875p chipset and Northwood core P4 @ 3.0 ghz. (ATI 9600 XT video card) The good ole' days of gaming/PC enthusiasm . Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah I remember those days too. I'm grateful for the technology that we have these days however, I don't think this generation truly understands how good they have it. I always hear about people (kids) complaining because they can only get 71fps in a game and its not fair that their parents won't buy them a REAL computer. I remember having no money and overclocking my pc so far that I had to have a box fan on high duct taped to the side of the case. I was so excited because I went from 10 to 15fps.

@@jims_junk I believe you are correct about these kids and their obsession with "FPS's". Built my Nephew a custom Zen 2 3600/GTX 1060 mini Gamdius gaming rig and he would ask about that same thing. (lol!) If I personally went "Way Back!", My first PC as a kid that I acquired was a Sega Master system game console that was a even trade for the Texas Instruments Ti -994A with all expansion hardware/software/games. (spoiled doctor's kid trade) My parents never bought me any tech or used PC's at the time. I was a young enterprising hard working kid back then. I also had the joy and excitement of using Apple 2 and IBM machines as well. (IBM was kinda boring back then) lol! Lots of fond memories and great times in the Eighties.

Most Conroe Core 2 Duo perfectly run at 3000-3300 mhz at default voltage. And their maximum FSB was around 500, many even run at well over FSB 500.

I use a core 2 quad every day on my budget gaming computer, most of the games I play it works absolutely fine also while letting me multitask, the only thing really bottlenecking me right now is I'm currently using 4gb of ram, I will be upgrading to 8gb soon although some how it still plays fairly well with 4, for those wandering what pc I'm using it is a dell xps420, many may remember it by its unique built in screen

I actually just picked up a q6600 that I stuck in an XPS 420 to for a cheap XP 32bit build. Dual boot with Win 10 and win 10 runs fine with 4gb of ram, much better than the e6550 that was in there. Plays 4k rendered youtube mostly fine, it would feel normal surfing the modern web apart from viewing it through the CRT it's displaying on.

The G0 stepping (which you have in the video) was a great overclocker. Back in the day it was common to drop the multipler to 8x and set the FSB to 400MHz for a stable 3.6GHz. It required good cooling and a decent p45/x38/x48 motherboard though
@Bubak777
@Bubak777 Жыл бұрын
8x400= 3,2Ghz. Well, you mean this for older B3 stepping. That one was tricky one... G0 is fine. :) 9x400=3,6Ghz is possible. Of course, you need a good VRMs for C2Qs and cooling, especially for Northbridge.

So instead of pin moding the celeron in my dimension 2400 I ended up modding the motherboard. Theirs now a pin block both soldered and double sided taped to the pll. That all ended up being POINTLESS because the northbridge purposefully doesn't work at 133mhz. Who knows, maybe 533mhz fsb chips will work now that the pll is always set to 100mhz. An otherwise excellent pc.

The Core 2 Extreme CPUs had a 1600mhz FSB. Some socket 771 Xeons also. They can be modified to fit and work in socket 775 boards with a BIOS mod

@tronalddump8776 Жыл бұрын
Only some of the 771's had a fsb of 1600. None of the 775's did but with a good board good ddr3 and a decent chip you might be able to push it but even the xeons didn't really like the fsb being touched and forget about pushing ram speed if you want to overclock the 771 at all.

It could have been luck of the draw on the silicone lottery, I remember having much better luck on BSEL modding Q6600's (2.4ghz to 3ghz) than Q6700's (2.66ghz to 3.4ghz). I think it's because I couldn't adjust the voltage on oem motherboards.
