Don't forget that there were also fsb differences and memory speed differences which may contribute... 800Mhz fsb shared by both pentium D cores compared to 1066 or 1333Mhz unshared of the core 2 duo. The fsb has to be shared again when moving to the core 2 quads. Also core 2 never had hyperthreading but then again neither did pentium D only the high end versions unlike pentium 4s.

I wanted to run CEMU on the FX 6300. The frame rate is disappointing at 15 fps. Even a faster graphics card doesn't help. This CPU is about two generations behind a Intel 3rd generation CPU. Even a Core i7 860 from 2009 is a bit faster.

I did a similar thing on a lower scale. Cmparing a Celeron 440 (Conroe-L, 2.0 GHz, 512k L2 cache, 200 MHz FSB, 35W TDP) against a Pentium 4 HT 631 (Cedar Mill, 3.0 GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 200 MHz FSB, 86W TDP) Yes, they run at different clocks, but we all know that NetBurst had low IPC, so it feels reasonably fair. And the Celeron came out on top in everything but 3DMark Vantage. What about overclocking? At 4.0 GHz the P4 pulls ahead, but the Celeron has headroom as well. And the one I had managed to go to 3.5 GHz, making the clock difference even smaller than stock.

From what I remember, Wolfdale/Yorkfield improved performance by about 6% on average over Conroe/Kentsfield Nehalem was mostly a frontend improvement. Integrating the memory controller, 3 level cache, native quad cores, hyperthreading.

Well that depends on what you're doing. I've seen them as low as $20 on ebay. $20 is pretty cheap to get you by until you can afford a new pc. I used a 3770 in my workbench pc, recently upgraded to a 4770 + motherboard. For everything I need it for, it works great. I can even edit on it ...not the fastest thing but it works. There's GT 710 models that use the GF119S core that came out later than the GK208 ones that very likely has no hardware encoder. I don't recall if my Galax GT 710 had the GK208 or GK208B die, but either way I was never able to get the NVENC part going on that one. Never knew if it was a lack of software support thing or drivers because I know I had problems with Handbrake and OBS among other programs where NVENC just doesn't get detected.
@cosmicnebula30238 күн бұрын
Good video. Checking online, the GK208B variant of the die isn't supposed to have it either, though here it's clearly shown as encoding via Nvenc. I'm wondering if it's due to lack of proper documentation? Makes me want to get a GT 710 myself to figure out more about the encoder. I already have three Kelper GPUs, the GTX 680, GTX 780, and the GTX Titan Black. I wonder if the GT710 encoder is the same as those or different?

Thanks. The results were about what I expected. The HD 530 trading blows with the GT 710 GDDR5. I got a UHD 630 with my i5 8500T and its fine for me since I don't do much graphically intensive stuff and the hardware encode/decode with QuickSync is quite nice considering older Intel HD Graphics (like pre HD 530 ones) have QuickSync problems or flat out is not detected. Weirdly I've been on a search for kinda modern iGPU performance but on a dedicated PCIE GPU form so its power efficient compared to my RX 5600XT when I don't need the GPU horsepower. Only the RX 550 is a somewhat reasonable purchase price-wise since the GT 1030 is like 2~2.5x of a RX 550.

The Intel 770 graphics was a LOT faster, it held a locked 60fps with the highest settings at 1440p. The gt 710 was limited to 1080p with medium settings and averaged around 45fps if my memory serves me correctly. I was surprised at the Intel 770 graphics.

The thing is that while the GT710 is more or less useless nowadays, the HD530 still has 'certain' use cases, namely H.265 QuickSync encoding (QSV). While recording/streaming with OBS, you can just offload the encoding to the iGPU. Of course, modern GPUs have great encoders, and by "modern" I mean Pascal/Polaris or newer, so you're only going to notice a ~2-3% performance difference. But on older cards, it can be pretty significant.
@jims_junk19 күн бұрын
One thing I noticed is the 710's are not listed as having nvenc, but they actually do...hence you see in the video using nvenc to encode that video. I've used one in the past for an obs streamer pc. So I totally get where you're coming from and you're right, but you can also use the 710 as the encoder as well.
@cosmicnebula302314 күн бұрын
@@jims_junk The actual GK208 die that the GT710 uses doesn't have an Nvenc chip. Odds are the software allows it to be chosen as an option, but falls back to software x264 encoding or uses the shading units for encoding.
