Normally I'd find 5 or more resources and make my own method up of the best. But I've stopped here. This will do nicely. Video deserves more views and likes!

Tried this last night and did well right up through the ink part haha. I tried using Pro Acryl transparent paints and they were TOO strong. Couldn't see through them and the brush strokes wouldn't go away. I tried thinning them with water and thinning them with contrast medium and neither worked well. Did a deep search to find the same inks you used so now I'm playing the waiting game. Thanks for the video!

You're looking for an ink that reactivates so Army Painter speed paints? But thin them - to dilute the color for most except where you want the most intense colors.

I did this on wraithguard, jetbikes, warp spiders and my farseer w/retinue. For them I did use a piece of torn paper for the stencil instead of the big sheet. Also instead of flicking paint for stars I just added a spase series of tiny dots with a brush. Hope it helps!

One more comment on this to say that I would love (and I'm sure a lot of other commenters would as well) to see you recreate this with available paints. I tried finding Warcoulors inks and they are impossible to get now. I have tried Army Painter washes and speed paints, proacryl transparent paints, and various mixes with water or mediums and they've all either turned out way too dark or way too light, and all of them have left water stains and don't turn out like yours. It's frustrating because you make it look incredibly easy and I don't know if it's because of those specific inks or I just can't figure out the correct amount of thinning to make the other ones work.

I'll see what I can do about making a new video with different paints/inks

Hey man, awesome technique! I just tried it out with gw washes and contrasts, it doesn't turn out quite as bright. But looks cool still! One question remains for me: what varnish did you use afterwards? My Minis are very matt right now, yours look a little more shiny.
@TheHangryGoat2 жыл бұрын
Glad it worked with the GW and contrasts! My nebulae Eldar stuff only looks shiny here due to absolutely horrendous lighting 😜 and the stars don't look so stark in normal lighting also. I found that I preferred a flat look - I used a flat spray varnish after the vehicles were finished. .

@TheHangryGoat2 жыл бұрын
Vallejo gamecolor inks can be used, but generally speaking they are super intense so you may have to dilute them slightly. Also, you could use any slightly thinned speed or contrast paint. Essentially this is grisaille, just with a different pattern. Hope that helps 😀

So how you do this without airbrush?
@TheHangryGoat2 жыл бұрын
I have seen others doe it with large area glazing with white. Similar to a watercolor painting where successive overlapping and on overlapping layers create a similar layered look to the areas. Also many use stippling to create depth. If I didn't use an airbrush I would try looking up a water color artists example of background layering, but use acrylic paint to avoid reactivation of the paint when the color wash is applied.
