There is a really useful comparability chart I use here: www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_Chart
@vizerandevir64224 жыл бұрын
@@k-leb4671 I main eldar. About 4k points craftworld Biel-Tan and 3.5k points Kabal of the Black Heart with heavy coven support. I agree that you don't see nearly as many eldar as the lore would suggest are out there, but I think it comes down to the sculpts being fairly old and assembly and painting being above average in difficulty. For instance I have stencils for the thorny vine freehand that craftworld Biel-Tan covers literally everything in, but often times it just takes sitting down for an afternoon with a magnifier and doing it for smaller models. So, that could be 6-8 hours for a single shining spear jetbike where another painter could have batch painted a squad of 3 similar models in that time. There are also stencils for the Kabal of the Black Heart tribal work, so I would say anybody who is put off by the seemingly impossible level of freehand shouldn't be too worried. Not to mention you can always practice panel lining while doing rocks on your bases or other terrain projects. I love the outcome that Guy pulled off here, but I think most people like to paint their eldar in the "clean" sort of ascetic with everything panel lined, white/black stripes marking stark contrast on all their Saim-Hann bikers or entire sheets of water transfers across armies. All that stuff takes seriously ludicrous amounts of time.

If you've got the white spray out anyway, give the black undercoat a zenithal highlight by spraying directly downwards from a distance, so it catches just the upper edges. This'll create natural highlights to your base coat, and helps introduce more contrast to the model at an early stage. Definitely invest in some cheap makeup brushes for drybrushing, particularly for smooth, rounded surfaces. They give a much better finish for drybrushing and help stop that chalky effect. Plus you can get them in glitter rainbow unicorn colours for about a fiver on Amazon!

I feel like the sword would actually be hotter close to the cutting edges, since the blade would be thinner there. But I guess that depends on how the heat is applied to the blade. If they just baked in an Eldar curling iron in the middle the blade would cool faster at the edges, since it has more surface area to mass.

The method for painting the blue armour is similar to how I painted the boney parts of my Nighthaunts. Drybrush up from a base coat, then in my case I used a Seraphim Sepia wash to harmonise the result. The wash/glaze step works well to counteract the side effects of drybrushing. Another potentially useful tip I've picked up for drybrushing is to slightly dampen a piece of foam (like the sort you often get in a blister packs of miniatures). Dabbing your drybrush into the foam adds a tiny touch of moisture to the paint and can reduce the chalkiness you get from drybrushing. My current project is a Cypher Lords warband for Warcry but I'm not using any unusual techniques for that - zenithal undercoat then Contrast paints for anything that isn't metallic.
@stephenspackman55734 жыл бұрын
Oddly enough, “using the edge of your brush is a little bit easier for controlling where the paint goes rather than sketching with the tip” is the scene I can't unimagine, yet it went by with nary a giggle. Keep it up, guys!
