In today's video, I'll take you through a fully fleshed out pole work lesson. First, we'll go through your warm up and the first exercise, using polework to improve your horse's straightness. We'll then move on to pole work designed to increase suppleness and finally, I'll show you an exercise to teach your horse a flying change - all with one set of poles!
I'll walk through them step by step via voiceover and then we'll head back to the yard and bath my grey horse (who I part-loan), Ted!

how do you tell if you’re on the right leg in canter? and how do you stay balanced without stirrups? 🖤

When you’re on the wrong leg, it will most likely “feel” wrong because they’ll feel unbalanced, so you learn to get a feel for it. But, if you look down at their shoulders, it should be the inside shoulder that is striking up and out in front further than the outside shoulder, it’ll look more exaggerated. Without stirrups: try to keep your leg as long as possible, really stretching down and “pushing” your thigh back and down without gripping onto the horse with your calves/heels. Try to absorb the bounce with your core and use that to anchor yourself in the saddle. Keep your hands soft and low, we don’t want to be using those to balance ourselves. 💫
