ANNETTE M. VOSS not all pigments work as true primaries. So through the series of these color mixing videos I’m hoping to help my community understand something called color bias or undertone. And that’s why sometimes when you make it to primaries you don’t get the color you expect because there is a hidden bias in one of the colors. In this particular case there is a hidden bias of yellow in the red. There’s also a hidden bias of yellow or more specifically green in the blue. This creates Hidden primary colors within these two. If you’re watch the Brown video you’ll notice that if you mix all three primaries you get brown. I have a video that really explains this called a split primary color wheel. But mostly it’s my acrylic April people who watch it. So I’m trying to come at this from a different angle. In future color mixes you’ll see sometimes you can get purple but not green or not a bright green. Depending on the pigment. We’re going to review Several in by the end of it I expect everyone who takes part in this journey to really understand not just the color wheel which at its heart is theory. But the hard practice of pigment. Which is more real when we’re actually painting. I’m glad this video got you thinking about that. And I hope you like the next one

I mentioned that mixing red and blue doesn’t necessarily result in purple in a post this week and inadvertently shocked some on Facebook. One response read ...WHAT IS THIS WITCHCRAFT THAT RED AND BLUE DON’T MAKE PURPLE...?! It fascinates me watching The Art Sherpa create her paintings. I see her mix colors and come up with a color I never would have imagined could spring from the combined colors. These are such valuable lessons.

This was super learning video on mixing , really helpful. I just had a question where basic kit comes with tubes labelled primary blue, primary red and primary yellow ( use one from liquetex). Are those same as primary colors you took ( phthalo blue, cad red,cad yellow). Could you please also make this video with different blue than phthalo blue like either ultramarine, cobalt,prussian blues. Really looking forward.

@@TheArtSherpa Dear Cinnamon, No I haven't seen Her site, but I will look into it. My first artist was Bob Ross, besides you and Ginger Cook and Clive5art. This would have been 2012. Then, I was devastated when I found out that Bob had died years ago. I stopped watching his youtubes for a month or so. Then I found Andrew Tischler - New Zealand, Bill Alexander - Bob's mentor, Richard Musgrave -Evans (Who I recommend to you, if you would like to see the Australian Outback) This Man Richard is amazing. I also watch Stuart Davies in France. Then, I also have The Sherpa, Ginger, Clive5art, Art Candy and John Magne Lasondra who are acrylic artists. Whom I just love watching all of them when I can. Thank you for this, and I'm off to practice! I'm confused though, as i was told to get the primary red, blue and yellow (and i got black and white :), as all other colours (like cad red etc) had a colour bias and would affect the colour mixes. Chart whatever colors you have to know how they mix! Ideally you would have cool and warm biased paints in each primary color for mixing. Ultimately unless you have the exact pigments Sherpa uses your paints won't mix the same. Cad red hue isn't cad red, etc. Always chart your paints.
@paulakerman2371
@paulakerman2371 4 жыл бұрын
@@Maddie-eg3ss I was going to do this, but i am just learning about colour mixing and previously saw a video about colours that aren't primary (cad red etc) would have a colour bias and would mix weirdly. It was just a question in ignorance, and i will see what results i get :-)

@@paulakerman2371 I was amazed at my results from charting. I keep my chart by me when I'm painting the sherpas tutorials and sometimes don't use the colors she does by name because I know my pigments aren't the same as hers and won't mix the same. It's soooo useful!
