II had so much fun making an earlier QAYG using this technique with skinny strips, I'm making another one! Using a variety of fabrics for the back makes the back as much fun as the front! Thanks for your excellent inspiration. LOVE that pink!
@elaineadair7 жыл бұрын
This is first time I've used this method, of skinny strips for sashing the QAYG. Yeahhh, works fine and I was thrilled all went together so quickly. Yes, stacking in some reasonable order is good idea! My backing pieces are a variety of ordinary fabrics, so I used wild little strips on the back - how kewlllll! Front is all kids prints, a LOT of them - I'm having fun. This is perfect use for my "hoard" of kids prints, and odd pieces of batting. Thanks for visual inspiration.

I think it was YOUR QAYG video that got me started on kids quilts using this method. I may have known about it previously, but your cheerful fabrics and teaching style really helped me move forward and make 6 or more for family and/or donations. I've made my own slight modifications but love using scraps and batting scraps. I kept 2 for baby-need emergencies. 8-)) Thank you so very much!

Erica, Thank you so much for sharing this video. My mother started a quilt as you go quilt several years ago. Due to memory issues she has no interest in sewing. She has several rows complete and I need to put two more rows together. After looking at your video I realize she used your method. I have been a little apprehensive about finishing this for her, she was a perfectionist, when it came to sewing. While watching your video I feel I can now complete this for her. My goal is to have it finished and present it to her at Christmas (hoping to give all of my family members a quilt this coming Christmas). While my Mom was working on this quilt she was so proud of it. I want her to enjoy the quilt and show others her beautiful work. Thank you again!!!

I've watched Leigh's video which is good but watching you do it with confidence and using a basic machine, iron, pins and talking like you are showing a friend how to do this is great. I have so many scraps and have been planning a QAYG for them and have been unsure of joining them. You are inspiring and I do believe I can do this. Keep up the good work on your videos.

good video. I always iron the seams down too, less chance of them moving on you! I got an embroidery machine for Christmas and now that I'm comfortable with it I'm thinking about doing a QAYG quilt. I've never made a quilt in my life! This vid helps me be less afraid. Thank you!

Great job showing this method! I have a suggestion that I show my students. Your best friend can be Elmer's Washable School Glue! I use it to hold everything in place instead of pins. Especially that last piece on top. Dab small amounts of glue all along the piece, iron in place to dry the glue then sew it as usual. Stitching will be perfect in the front and back. The best part is...it all washes out the first time you launder it! You can use the glue when folding over your outer binding too. You can then stitch your binding on by machine. Happy Quilting!

Thanks so much!!! I love quilting small projects but do not like trying to quilt anything larger than a throw size on my machine. For some reason I always thought QAYG didn't come out looking like a regular quilt, but I love your color choices. Now I'm looking forward to finding the right pattern and can't wait to make a larger quilt. You are an excellent teacher!

Boy, I understand what you mean when you say "what works for me" in that you're doing things a little differently from others who use this method of QAYG. We all have different skills and find various small steps or techniques that work for our particular situation(s). I must say that what MOST impressed me about this quilt is how you kept that layout in order as you joined all the blocks; I certainly could use your concentration skills. :-) I LOVE the zig-zag layout, and the best part of it is that you don't have to match up seams on this one. Thanks.
@PurpleQuiltCo8 жыл бұрын
