Something that I found interesting when talking with my mother recently was that I was a picky child when I was young until we moved to a very rural area and started spending my entire day running around in the woods like a feral gremlin. I'd come home for dinner and be willing to eat absolutely ANYTHING lol

I wish I had known that a good rice cooker was as functional as an Instapot for a small family and could have saved money and space storage. I will try this it looks wonderful I could almost smell it!

@@MiwasJapaneseCooking Instant Pot can be quite large, but there is a smaller model that will do for small families. It's not unusual for me to use the IP and rice cooker at the same time. Single lady here - I'm all about the cook once and eat for three days LOL

My kids have been jokingly (but persistently!) complaining that I’ve been cooking too many Southeast Asian dishes lately, and they’ve specifically requested that I start making more Japanese and Korean food for a change. After watching this video, I’m actually considering it! The portion sizes are smaller, and the dishes seem lighter and healthier, which might just help us shed some of that "American fat" we’ve been carrying around. It seems like a great way to mix things up and explore new flavors while also making healthier choices for the family. Thanks for sharing and great job!

I love seeing your tableware samples and am anxiously awaiting your launch. All the things you showed were lovely and I would certainly put them to good use. This good quality, beautiful artisanal japanese tableware will compliment your tasty recipes. How satisfying that your boys liked your meal too! :)

I have a very simple rice cooker, my grandmother bought me when I moved out to live on my own, about 19 years ago. The knob on the lid broke but otherwise it's still going. A precious thing since my grandmother passed away 15 years ago. It only has a cook and keep warm function but it works :) Though I love making like main dish meals in the rice cooker and everyone eats is (as long it's no seafood for my husband), my daughter loves the easy rice dishes the most. I think edamame and peas rice are her favourite. Add a teriyaki/yakitori style dish (either, chicken of with tofu) and she loves the meal. For those loving a bit more spice you can add more spicy peppers instead of (part of the) bell pepper, like substitute with anaheim peppers or partly add spice peppers. Or I would use shishito peppers if my harvest this summer will go alright. I like the simple dishes for my table as well, as it's easier to combine that way but still keep the seasonal element. One of the things i would love to add to my table wear is some edo kiriko dishes. a simple bowl or glass for the three of use.

Your grandmother would be so happy that she's still taking care of you. It's like hugs from heaven. If or when you need to upgrade she will be with you blessing your choice of cooker. May she rest well and always watch over her loved ones. 💝💝💝

Hi Miwa, Thanks for sharing some of your favorite tableware pics. What a fun process to receive all the samples and curate a collection of your own ! The items you selected are unique and not something people outside of Japan have access to. I love them all for different reasons. The Urushinori bowls in black and red. Classic, yet updated with a contemporary flower motif. The simple white side dish has a perfect balance because the edges are just the right thickness. The summer rice bowl is cool and refreshing to look at. It would coordinate well with the blue & white Japanese designs that people already own. And last the useful oval plate with beautiful earthy tones and textures. I would use it for a main & salad or curry.

I'm definitely going to try this. I think it would be great for breakfast, and have leftovers for a couple of days. 🙂 I make my own stock so I'll use that as the liquid, instead of water and the stock powder. Because of your Miwa's influence, I also made several small pots of different kinds of soup, and froze them in one-cup sizes, so I can just heat them and not have to make a new pot of soup for with breakfast. 😍

I think for the Instant Pot, just using the "rice" setting for takikomi mode would work for this, assuming you're using sushi rice, not brown rice, and you're not using anything that would take a super long time to cook. 🙂
