Mark, have you considered using vacu-seal? Precook your favourite meal/s vacuum them into the bag, then when you boil your water for coffee, drop the bag into the water for a reheat. Just a thought.
@budget-adventure2 жыл бұрын
99% of the stuff I take away is exactly that. Mostly cook the sauces with veg etc and just boil rice of pasta, re heat the vac bag while it’s cooking. Drain the water and mix. Mmmm

Been doing similar for years Mark but pre cooking before we leave. I do a Rice or a Pasta and chop and add a meat like Spam or Corn Beef and then the world is your Oyster you can add onion grate carrot or chop up Salad veg like Cucumber Beetroot Potato Boiled or scrambled Egg toms and I always chop up Apple Pear Pineapple Orange and mix in salad cream. You can do it loads of different ways and is filling. Great vid Mark. One thing though how did you manage to stay sane kneeling on that aggregate It looked painful. Respect.

You can pre-do the rice add all the bits you like then just heat when out and about, no need to use drinking/cleanup water. Instead of Spam, have you tried Straz? can do the same thing with that.

And here in my area (California) there is a Spam shortage since the pandemic hit, used to have cans and a selection of flavors, now you find a few cans of regular and the individual packets. Not really a worry since I went Vegetarian last year but my elderly mother who Iives with me likes it so I treat her to some now and then. I saw in our market little plastic tubs of brown rice and little tubs of baked beans, those I have combined while camping throw in BBQ chips and you got protein and crunch. hot sauce does wonders for camp meals, doesn't have to be flaming hot even Mild sauce or Salsa help. I tend to like a brand called Tapatio I put on it on eggs, potatoes, burgers and Tacos of course.

Hey mate, I've been veggie for a good long while, and so hoping someone will make a tin (it has got to be a tin for preservation whilst out and about) of blinking veggie/vegan spam or something like that. Come on Quorn, get yer act together. Kind regards.
@bikecommuter243 жыл бұрын
Here in California there are canned aka tinned veggie dogs, don’t taste that great though. There is city with Seventh Day Adventist nearby and they got stores that cater to vegan and vegetarian tastes and they got tinned veggie meat substitute products. I have thinking of using one of those seal bag machines and make my own There is always those freeze dried meals but they get pricey.

i like it - I do a similar thing with the SPAM, fry the crap out of the thin slices. The other thing I add to rice sometimes is beef jerky. Nice and simple, adds some meat and some flavour. I like your individually wrappd egg idea - gonna use that one this summer. Another good one (if you like fish) is to add a can off kippers or tuna to rice or to mac and cheese. Give it a whirl. Thanks - Kelly

Looking good Mark and a great pick me up at the end of a hard ride.You could try sliced luncheon meat from the deli counter instead of the tinned spam, that way it would be nice and thin plus take up less room and some spices can add taste to a meal too. As to a name for the meal well obviously "Rice n Bits" ;)

If you're going to scramble your eggs anyway...scramble them at home and put them in a squeeze bottle. Then you can squeeze out as many portions as you need. Also, no more broken eggs in your kit. Been using this method for over 40 yrs.
@bikecommuter243 жыл бұрын
Mark appreciate this video I love camp cooking. What is really Sh*t Easy and tastes good is Mac n Cheese and Spam even the kids like it, some people like to ruin by adding Broccoli 😝 I like broccoli just let me enjoy my carbs. I don't eat the spam myself I add spicy soy sausage or something called soy chorizo they have been getting better with the plant based protein patties lately so there is that, lucky I live in California with a lot of vegans and vegetarians. I'm not anti-meat I did it for health reasons I was suffering from joint inflammation and pain and when I stopped eating meat and products with meat in them it went away that and losing 40 lbs lets just say 18kg. Doctors are not sure why maybe the additives or nitrates they put in meat, but they put a lot of those additives in veggie products too, so who knows it working for me. A box of Mac n Cheese takes up no space and cooks up quick I guess you could use those lunch size tubs they sell but the box taste better I prefer the one with a creamy cheese over the powdered ones i.e the cheap ones, I even throw in a slice or two of pepper jack. Cheers.

Don't get me wrong - I like your cooking, I truly do and I kinda started to use sometimes Spam due to your videos :D But I'm surprised you aren't using some kind of "Billy Pot"/"Zebra Billy Pot" System, why is that so? Here in Germany it was a little bit more expensive than my Stanley "Adventure Cooking Set" (You know, the one Stainless Steel "Put" with the two Cups) and a Stainless Steel Pan. I always use Stainless Steel Stuff for cooking over open fire (Ah, I just ruined as a child an aluminium Pan over a open fire) - But on Motorcycle Trips I use my Alcohol Stove. You know, like the one from Trangia although I'm usin' the Esbit set (The big one, with two pots and a Pan) - Simple because a.) in Germany, you don't have a real "Wilderness" in which you're longer than maybe an hour away from some Town or Village, which makes "Spiritus"/Alcohol for the Stove nearly everywhere available b.) open fire is often forbidden and due to protection of the few forests we still have and c.) Gas is for my taste too loud. So idk if an Alcohol Stove would be a alternative for you - I've heard the Alcohol you need for those Stoves isn't everywhere as easy to buy as in Europe. I mean, here it's basically standard due to the whole "No open fire on the ground" and "Don't cut the trees down and/or let the sticks on the ground for the Bugs" thing. And when I'm "further out" (East Czech Republic or so), I prefer to cook directly on open fire.
