Nice easy build I like it! But the two elbows used for the bucket stop are actually 90 degree elbows not 45 degree as you said they were same thing with the 90 degree Street ell you referred to as a 45 degree you used on top of the bucket. Not that big a deal just thought that you should know in case you want to correct the parts list. Great design I’m going to build one myself! Thanks!

I modified this design. On two of the uprights I spliced in Tee connectors. I then extended from the Tee about 8" pipe. Then added a 90 degree fitting pointed up, placed may 8" or 10" pipe running vertical. Put an end cap on this pipe. Now I have a handy place to store my hoses. I unwrap what I need to reach the tool. I use two types of Rockler hoses, the expandable and the non expandable hoses.

I'm using the Dustopper with my Rigid shop vac for refinishing a hardwood flooring, but I didn't build a caddy like this because I didn't want the elbows slowing the airflow. The bucket is just bungee-corded to the side, sitting on one of the caster arms, so it's just as portable. To increase efficiency, I used self-adhesive 3/8" wide vinyl foam weatherseal under the rim of the Dustopper, where it sits on top of the bucket.

Nice video! I have watched a lot of cart videos trying to get ideas on how to build mine. Do you find the 2in PVC all the way up is too bulky? I know some have reduced to a 1.5in PVC after the coupler on the older Ridgid Vacs to clear the sides.

i have a shop vac and do not have the wheels that you can put attachments on, think I could use smaller pvc and then just attach it somehow around the vac or do I need 2in to help with stablility too?

I've watched many videos with different variations of this basic pvc design. Most of the others use the old version of the Ridgid vac that has different feet. With those feet you can get a snug fit with PVC adapters, but have to reduce to 1.5" to clear the side of the vac. On the new Ridgid NXT vacs (that you used), the feet stick out further and you don't need to reduce to 1.5" to clear the side of the vac, however, as you showed, you can't get a snug fit to the feet with standard pvc fittings. Some of the solutions to get a snug fit involve buying 4 expensive Ridgid adapters. Not ideal. Here's what's different about your design that I think I'm going to incorporate into my build. Instead of using longer legs and dropping the bucket further through the deck up to the bucket lip, you used shorter legs, and only have the bucket protrude through the deck by a few inches. If you use the longer leg method, I would think that it would be pretty wobbly unless you put the $ and effort into getting a snug fit at the feet. With your shorter leg design, it looks to be stable enough with a loose fit at the feet. I like it!

Nice video. Everyone seems to pull on the hose while vacuuming and “straying away from your target”. Do you ever pull that bucket off the top since is not very deep into your table top?

I have pulled the bucket out once when yanking on the chord a bit.. A tad deeper would likely help, but seems pretty rare

The video from John the Builder says that he had to use a reducer to go from 2" to 1.5" pipe because the 2" pipe hit the sides of the vacuum so that it wasn't 90 degrees. But your design does use a 2" pipe. Did you find that the pipe hit the sides of the vacuum and changed the angle? Hard to tell from the video.

It's tight, but slides into the slots fine. I'm not sure what model of vac he used as well..?

The older Ridgid vacs used different feet that didn't stick out as far as the current NXT version in this video. The old ones required the reduction to 1.5", the new ones don't. However, the fittings used for the old ones to connect to the feet don't fit snugly on the new NXTs. You can keep them loose as in this video, or look for other videos with NXTs for other options.
