Tenor or alto?
@kennethmccamish40928 жыл бұрын
+Night Raid He is playing an alto in the video but since it's not in the original key anyway you could play it on any sax. The way to tell alto from tenor in videos where the size isn't easy to see is to look at the neck. A straight neck is an alto and a slightly curved neck is a tenor. ( of course bari is easy to see)

Yeah absolutely, you'll find most professional players tighten up their technique when it is needed and then become more flamboyant on easier passages. As you are developing its very important to keep your technique as tight as possible :) Thanks for the comment ^^

Awesome method in teaching Dan. I really enjoy the easy casual teaching style and that you're teaching notes with songs and then teaching ear training as well. Hi Cely, Absolutely. The difference between beginner and intermediate saxes is the refinement in tuning, response, build and resistance of the tube. An intermediate sax off the starting blocks won't hinder you but it will mean that you can probably stick with that same saxophone for a lot longer. DC

The sax is quite an easy instrument to start on but like many other instruments, mastering it takes a lifetime! To play a song like careless whisper well? You could have the notes under your fingers within a week of regular practice but it's unlikely to sound great until you've developed a solid tone and consistent sound which could take anywhere from 1 day to several years! Everything in good time! The most important thing is enjoying yourself while you do it and picking it up regularly.

Yep, some people can and it's a great skill. I find many people need a helping hand though, there is enough to be thinking about when first starting out on Sax. These videos are merely here to get people playing tunes asap so that they might carry on playing to the stage when they can work out songs for themselves. There is always the option of pausing after the demo, have a go, then compare your version with the version I teach too :-) Best wishes, DC

Hey GWOSAPAT, as you probably noticed, I'm also on a YAS62, had it for nearly 20 years now! I use a S80 c* and Legere Signature series 2.75 for a very controlled sound that I like. For jazz/rock you probably want something a bit more hardcore like a Otto Link Tone Edge, or if you are feeling very brave a Meyer. That said, it's very hard to get the sound you want with gear. I've always been looking for my own sound but its a long journey. Have you tried messing around with reed placement?
