ABOUT "Easy SRV Songs To Learn"
Stevie Ray Vaughan really changed the game for us guitar players.
He single handedly injected an entirely new world of techniques and tones into the blues.
Stevie refined blues guitar. He was a true disciple of the blues. He managed to become a melting pot of nearly every different style and approach to blues guitar.
The world of rhythm guitar was flipped on it's head when SRV came around. In songs like Cold Shot, and Pride and Joy, we can hear his signature sound. Stevie would smack the strings extremely hard with his right hand. His left hand had an incredible mute. But the main sound we hear with Stevie Ray Vaughan on these tracks is the extra strums. He would literally hit open strings between every note to create a brilliant, beautifully sloppy, shuffle.

The problem I always have when trying to learn this song, specifically this SRV shuffle technique, is how to mute the unwanted strings on the downstrokes for the bass notes. Do you have any pointers to cure that issue?

Hey Jason, yeah that technique is essential for pro sounding guitar playing, but can be really challenging until you get used to it. It's with your left hand musting and striking the strings with a lot of force and aggression in your right hand - use your fingers like a bridge or a rainbow shape to rest on top of the strings to deaden them. Also, you can use your thumb to mute the low E and A strings. Hope that helps! Definitely consider a 1:1 lesson as it's much easier to explain in person!
