Marcus King is a true musical treasure. I’m 66 years old, playing guitar for 56 of those years, and it does my heart good to be inspired by someone who could be my grandkid. ☮️☮️

Marcus is the perfect example of a true musician. Not only is he an exceptional player, he can freaking sing beautifully. Also, one of the best live shows I’ve seen in recent times. Great mix of classic and not the generic boring blues that are overdone, he mixes it up into his own sound.

Didn't he say that red 345 was his grandfather's guitar? Then you've got his dad, and now he's carrying on the legacy in spades...gotta love that. He's so steeped in the good stuff, the soulful southern rockers, plus this & that from the classic English guys (Clapton, et al), and Hendrix, and he's so respectful & reverent about it--topping it all off, he's absorbed all those influences and manifests it as such a great freakin' player in his own well deserved right! You can't help but appreciate where he's coming from & how his music reflects that. Godspeed Marcus King!

A dominant 7th chord is both major and minor. So that tension for the Toy Caldwell works against the minor 3rd actually works by washing by merging the harmonic tone of the major 3rd and minor third. The 7 is minor in a dominant 7th. But sounds major due to the minor 3rd. Toy Caldwell and other Southern style players have gravitated to that almost instinctively because they shifted from country to the rock sound to fit the culture of the times.

Ronnie Van Zant and a few of the other guys in Skynyrd were heavily influenced by Free (the band). Songs like Saturday Night Special, Cheatin' Woman and On The Hunt its easy to hear the influence. The whole Nuthin' Fancy sounds like they were listening to alot of Free at the time. Great album.

In the Duane Allman segment the tune 'Don't Want You No More' is attributed to King Curtis. It is actually a Spencer Davis track (see link below), the B-side of the first single, 'Time Seller', the band did after the departure of Stevie and Muff Winwood from the band. They were replaced by singer/guitarist Phil Sawyer and organist/bass pedals Eddie Hardin, who also sang, though not on this track, which is all Sawyer. This is the original recording (the image is the Winwood lineup). When Sawyer quit the band because he didn't like touring, he was replaced by Ray Fenwick (who years later was in Ian Gillan's band). The aforementioned tunes were also included on the band's 'With His New Face On' album, with the original music but new vocals. I believe Fenwick sang 'Don't Want You No More' and Hardin did 'Time Seller'. There is also another version of 'Don't Want...' on KZbin by a much later version of the band. It is, IMO, horrid. BTW, when Hardin and drummer Pete York quit to form Hardin-York, they were replaced by bassist Dee Murray and drummer Nigel Olson, whose next move was to Elton John. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGXFqY2roMqCq9k
