It's a latch hook. For making rugs with a like short pieces of yarn on a very open plastic grid type fabric piece. I have gotten them in a kit where the rug becomes a picture from the different colored yarns.

Right up my alley ;) I made something similar last night with 6 chorizo sausages, 3 carrots, 1 sweet potato, 1/2 cauliflower, 2 potatoes, 1 tinned tomatoes, herbs and spices and 1 tin of chickpeas to bulk it up. Very delish and polished off tonight even thought we live in the tropics and it never really goes below 25 degrees. No need of cold weather when I'm a glutton lol

I know I'm way behind, but your item is a latch hook. I used to make latch hook pillows, rugs and wall hangings, in the 80's. It was one of the first kinds of needlework that I was interested in. Crochet took over after that. Your sausage stew looks good to me. This is the time of year that I favor eating soups and stews and chili. 🙂👍🥣

Oh yes, I remember when I was a kid making what we call in the US, a "hook a rug" and that is the tool used. You can buy a kit that comes with the latch hook tool, small pieces of colored yarn and the patterned canvas. You follow the pattern with hooking the various colors and whola! you have a puppy rug, owl, flower ,etc. Thanks for sharing your recipe. My mom used to make hot dog casserole when I was little. Saute up onion and cut up hot dogs, mix in baked beans. Put all into a casserole dish and top with shredded cheese and bake in the oven. Also, I heard a similar story about canned tomatoes that it is better to buy them whole because the chopped tomato in cans are the ones that are of lesser quality. Have a wonderful family trip to Vienna.Looking forward to pix. I always wanted to travel there.

It's a latchhook tool! Years ago, in the 1970's..when I was about 8 years old, there used to be boxed kits in the stores where all of the supplies were included to make a pillow, or maybe a rug. They were made by using that hook tool to pull small pieces of colored yarn through pre-cut holes in a piece of canvas that was already colored to match the pieces of colored yarn, like a paint-by-number. Now, I have certainly probably confused you to death...(smiles) Brings back memories of begging my mom to buy me a new kit to craft a pillow. My hands would ache trying to finish the project and I never had the patience to fully complete one before giving up! No wonder mom didn't want to buy me a new one...plus, they were quite pricey for a kid's craft project. Your stew looks delicious as always. Ohhh.. I would give anything to travel to Austria. Safe travels and will live vicariously through your travels...Blessed weekend to you and yours :)

Diane I know what that needle is. I have one . I made crafts with that in 5th grade, in Portugal where I am from. So, the craft is made with these tapestry kind of fabric but with big wholes and the wool you buy for this craft is cut out in pieces about 3 or 4 inches long I would say. The wool comes all nice and packed together with a label that holds the pices together like in a skein of wool, in a varied palette of colors. You then grab each individual piece of wool, fold it in half, place it against each square of your tapestry and with the hook tie it to the tapestry. You use your pattern to know what color to use to"paint" the picture in your pattern. It makes a piece similar to a rug. I made a horse's head, with a background. The way you attach the wool to the tapestry with the hook is the same way you use to attach a fringe with a crochet hook to a knitted or crocheted item like a scarf for instance. I have been living in the United States now for 20 years. I am 50 like you and my husband is American. Kinda like your story. Anyways, I still have my hook. I love your channel. I didn't know about flying lady before, until a week ago. I am very tidy, clean organized and when I watch your routines I feel really good because I always had them without even knowing about flying lady. It makes me feel happy to know that I am doing alright because sometimes I am too hard on myself. I like how you do stuff in small increments and take time for Hygge. I need to do more Hygge. I tend yo push myself too hard. Thank you and keep up the good work. Carla

Hi Diane, I love this recipe but here in Germany I use Bratwurst sausages and to put a 'posh' spin on it I use chopped Chorizo as well along with smoked paprika and butter beans, onion, chopped tomatoes and thicken it little with tomato puree. Gorgeous with fluffy mashed potatoes! We are having it on next week's menu. Enjoy your weekend xx

Hi it's me again,I nearly screamed when I saw the hook. It's from a readicut rug kit. Readicut is or was the brand name and you bought a canvas and set lengths of wool. My Mum made a half moon hearth rug and this craft was all the rage in the 70s, Readicut also did a large wall hanging canvas of the last supper and you used the hook to make a special knot to fasten it into the canvas. Very expensive kits at the time but it bought back a great memory of my dearly departed Mum

I'm French Acadian ( Canadian ) our comfort food is poutine rapee. It's a ball of half mashed cooked potatoes mixed with grated raw potatoes, you form a ball the size of a baseball or soft ball. You then pick a hole in the center and put a bit of salted pork in the center and close up the hole. You then boil this potatoes ball. It's kind of grey in color and slimmy. Believe it or not it's tasty and we usually serve it with sugar for dipping.

@DianeinDenmark - I would put in mustard, preferably Dijon, instead of the Worcester sauce and call it "Korv Stroganoff" in Swedish - as in Sausage Stroganoff 😀 If you include potatoes it would be a "Korvgryta". We usually eat it with cooked rice. And the sausage we use is "Falukorv".

The latch hooks are fun and even children can make small rugs with them. I would buy a kit from a craft store and make the little square rugs into pillows for my children’s bedrooms. I probably got my first kit when I was 8 or 10 years old for Christmas. I have a rectangular sunflower rug with a blue background that my grandmother made draped on the back of a chair in my bedroom. I made a rectangular Santa Clause rug that is a wall hanging in my Christmas decorations.

look at latch hook kits(rug kit) (my d kids had them) (this tool is used on an almost like a large needlepoint base) and it comes with 2-1/2" pieced of yarn approximately - there are rug hooks with out the clip that are used on material with wool strips (mostly) woolery.com/rug-hooking.html

The hook is a "latch hook". I made a lot of "latch hook" rugs as a kid. You use appx 2" pieces of yarn and "hook" them on a pre-made grid with a pattern on it. The rug pile is appx 1" long when finished.

That hook tool is for making hooked rugs! You get a base fabric that has a type of grid, then you take precut pieces of wool( yarn) about 4-5” long, fold it in half ....then plunge the hook in and out of the grid fabric, then place the folded yarn into the hook and pull it half way thru, then hook the ends thru the loop and pull taught. I am sure I made it sound harder than it really is....lol It was popular in the early 70’s

In the US, we call that a "latch hook". It is used to pull a bit of yarn through a net base to make a rug. By using different colors of yarn, you can make designs. I made these when I was a girl, back in the '70's. They are not so popular now. Look on KZbin for 'how to make latch-hook rugs".

Bonne soirée and big hugs. Les salutations du 🇱🇺😀

OMG 😲😲😲 i grew up with this dish!!! We put potatoes and instead of pour cream, we put water and at the end it's more like a soup and eat it with bread. My kids love it too 😉.That thing i think it's for wool, if it's damaged you can pull back the thread...i wish you a great week-end😍😍😍

As usual, your video was wonderful! That little tool is a rug hook. Very popular in the late 70's and early 80's. Unfortunately, not a valuable item 😞
