His "non existent technique" was hitting horizontal because it takes a lot of practice with fake nunchucks, hitting vertical and not hitting yourself in the head or crouch. However hitting horizontal takes no practice whatsoever, because you have a very low chance of hitting yourself in the face unless you aim high up then..... Well have fun in the hospital.

+pattymiester 123 And about 3x less concealable, heavier and more tiring to use, slower to swing, and therefore much easier to be disarmed while using. Plus side, more damage if you do make contact. Every weapon has it's pros and cons, and If it's historically used, you can bet it's not useless.

+ZNA Productions Well actually, I'd say it's more conceable as you know, you could just say you play baseball. Also, a baseball bat is not quite as heavy as you make it seem. If you worked out your arms a little, you could swing one fifteen times without breaking a sweat, and that would take half the time it takes to learn how to not hit yourself with nunchucks. second of all, nun chucks in history were not used often at all, because of its ineffectiveness. Nobles had it as a toy.

Don’t quote me on this but a friend once told me that the tapering is because for the weight to be kept at the bottom so your nunchucks won’t fold in the middle of the swing, that’s why when i made mine with just a dowel (but i might have had cut the handle a bit shorter as i expected), i compensated that problem by putting a light weight at the bottom, light enough to keep the momentum but not heavy enough to impede the motion. Something like a small drawer knob. Or a screw and washer.

maybe, you could make ribons, in the end, so when you hit the target, you got on the point of the ribons a much higher psi. The metal would also be not so springy as the wood, so you would also have an harder impact. Or what do you mean?

Very nice. I've used one hole and tied a bowline knot on either side to make nunchucks before. It works just fine and holds up fine but this construction is far superior, will really last and easier to get the desired length, I'll definitely use it on my next pair. I have to ask though, did they feel light? They look lighter than the pairs I've made and possibly a little less powerful because of that. I'd recommend the same technique on a heavier and/or slightly thicker wood. In my experience the taper is not important but the weight and density really make a difference. (Been doing martial arts for 13 years so I'm very familiar with chucks) Love the video, thank you for sharing!

@TheRealNintendoKid8 жыл бұрын
when I string my nunchaku, I do it the same way as you except I try to braid the strings between them, and I braid them instead of wrapping them at the ends. That, and paracord is synthetic. You can use a lighter to just melt the ends to keep them from fraying.

Just found your videos tonight and went through probably a dozen of them so far. Really creative, and good-looking weapons, especially for made on the cheap. Choke up on your grip and you'll have a lot better control (it'll also be a lot safer to make sure that you don't have enough slack to accidentally smack yourself in the back of the head for the underarm tucks), but other than that - looked pretty impressive for somebody who's never used them before.

Just a suggestion from a fan, you could add a little weight in the ends of the kontei (the ends) by drilling into the end a short ways and screwing in a lag bolt (I'd offer size suggestions, but I don't honestly know the diameter of the hammer grips you've got there), and then, not only would you have a kontei you could use as a bashing weapon for a short range smack if needed, but the added weight would improve the velocity of the batons when in motion. You could further enhance that effect with some wire wrapping near the ends of the individual batons. Obviously, that adds time and expense to the build you've shown here, but, for those interested, not a huge amount of either. Make those sumbitch pumpkins PAY!
