What a great advice! I have 20 pounds of led sheets in the garage, and I just learned how to use them. Thank you:)

Aleksander - I was glad I had seen him do this in an earlier film. Did you see him make feeders from hair curlers? He also uses old wiring. I had leftover clad earthing wire laying about, and this is like perfect size to make slim weights from. A gentle tap to flatten it some, then drill a small hole in it, and hey presto. A 5 inch long slim weight casts like 80 yards and makes almost no noise when it enters the water. At 1 inch it is almost like a dropshot weight.

When beach casting over rough ground i used to use old spark plugs or wheel nuts. Got them free from my local serving garage. Spark plugs were brilliant for distance casting.

Love your videos! Great job! I don't have access to sheet lead. But I have access to wheel weights. Should work the same. Thanks. Just a heads up, Key West Kayak Fishing has a video out asking for catch and cooks. He is making a video featuring them. It has to be shared by the maker or I'd share yours. Hope it helps.

I've missed these kinf of down to basics videos you do Graeme. Great stuff. i see people concerned about toxicity issues. well how about a bolt? got to be bigger of course .
@TAFishing7 жыл бұрын
Done that one.Bit of a pain tying the line around the thread and they tend to wobble in the air during the cast. For close range fishing I tend to use nuts.....Yes...BIG NUTS !! Easy to tie on,and my go-to weight when Conger fishing from piers where its rough and snaggy and chances of losses are high. Lorry wheel nuts are a favourite and heavy enough.So if you pass a lorry in a lay-by on bricks,you'll know I'm out probably out on a shore Conger trip.
@davidharvey56727 жыл бұрын
TAFishing yes that sounds great. I tend to take my workshop for granted wacking a hole through a bolt is nothing on a drill press. thread a bit of wire through and Bobs your uncle. once the bolt is hanging on centre jobs a goodun! Your idea is way simpler. Cheers

At my local coarse fishery there is a sturgeon that was liberated for someone's aquarium and it has grown to about 15lbs do you know how you would catch it the only rules are that you can't meat or bread any tips to catch it Ps. It has been nicknamed Nicola (this is in Scotland) great video tips that are very useful
@TAFishing7 жыл бұрын
No meat ? but it sounds like you can use fish then ?? So try lamprey,cut in half.Its a blood sucking parasite,so will leach out blood for the Sturgeon to find. I've caught Sturgeon in British Columbia's Fraser River on what I think is the same thing.They called it "Ooligan",don't know if it should have an "H" in front of the word,but it looked exactly the same thing.Its in our vintage Playlist section,Catching Giant White Sturgeon of the Fraser,I think we had them on film to over 300lbs. I know my group caught 189 of the critturs in one week though. Certainly worth a shot for "Nicola".Hope you catch her.

Hi Graeme, Recently i made a batch of Bouncing Betties which cost me 30p each out of 1oz Ball Weights, heavy wire and 8 inch long cable sheath With a Swivel at the top. Apparently they are great for Bass with a long Trace and also pretty weedless. Considering they cost a Quid in the shops its a No Brainer. WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS ON BOUNCING BETTIES GRAEME AND THEIR USES. Also again those Hats are brilliant at keeping you cosy. My Warmest Wishes As Always, Steve in Fife.
@ryannlarge84147 жыл бұрын
That looks like the rig my dad uses to bottom bounce for trout. His main line is tied to a three way swivel one end of the swivel has a length of planar board line on it with a ball sinker tied on and the other end of the swivel is his leader line to his bait/lure. People use that set up on the Niagara River for trout/salmon/large mouth bass/small mouth bass as well.
@TAFishing7 жыл бұрын
I used a round ball weight for bottom bouncing for Salmon from the gravel bars on the Fraser River in B.C. They certainly seem to snag less.Also a cloth tube of split shot with a swivel at the end.I think they called it a "slink" ? Also pretty much snag free,and helped me get Salmon to 35lbs,though we lost a 60lb Harrison White right over the rim of the net.Would have been my biggest Salmon !....but XXXX happens as the saying goes.

I've no idea what a bouncing betty is (thought it was ordnance, like war ammo.). Graeme once described the slinkie to me on patreon Q&A. Now I gotta find out what this thing or rig looks like.

Learnt in school that lead fishing gear and lead bullets kill hundreds of thousand waterfowl a year. i never knew how bad it actually is, do a bit of reserch on it and youll be surprised.

These leads are for sea fishing, hence why Graeme talks about boat fishing and rough ground.... - Mike
@guineafowl80297 жыл бұрын
You're referring to lead shot, which the fowl ingest as grit. This comes mainly from shotgun cartridges, which must now be non-toxic for wetland areas. Show me the waterfowl that could ingest the lead that Graeme made and I will run very fast in the opposite direction.

Ok for boat but would never ever cast with it I have lots off friends who tournament cast and pendulum casts like me and it's dangerous that lead it's not strong enough to there's to many week points in the folds and splits in that lead so when you cast a bit could fly off and go thro someone stupid advice Greame on casting ok for boat tho
@TAFishing7 жыл бұрын
Been using folded leads for years,never had anything come apart.This one is just a better balanced shape for lobbing out over rough ground.I don't recall saying use it for tournament casting or pendulum casts ?

I'm saying that Mr. Pullen has already shot his wad and now that he's attempting to generate income from his videos, he's putting up drivel, at best. Really enjoyed the content of his channel, pre Patreon.
@TAFishing7 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, this is Graeme's son Mike here. Think you might be misunderstanding something. Graeme earns NOTHING from this KZbin Channel. And by nothing I mean nothing. I recently took on running the Channel and editing videos etc full time and whatever is earned through this channel is my income. Graeme gets nothing from it. I have always offered and he has always declined. He makes these videos for the love of fishing, to give something back to the industry which he is so passionate about. As for selling his soul to Patreon, Graeme didn't have a clue what Patreon was until I told him and I set it up. It's sad that you have to spout off like this to make yourself feel better and to try and put other good people down. I do honestly feel sorry for you, all that anger and hate must make you a very unhappy man, perhaps you should go fishing more....??.

shouldn't you be using gloves when dealing with lead?
@TAFishing7 жыл бұрын
Probably not a sea fisherman in the world that puts on a pair of gloves just to clip a lead on .And in the tackle shops ? Do they have to put gloves on every time they touch a fishing lead ? or unpack lead weights to put them on the shelves ? I guess not.But in this world of Health and Safety gone mad you may well turn out to be right. I personally don't bother.But if it worries you, ....get those gloves on !!

Lead isn't absorbed through the skin, so he's fine as long as he don't eat with his fingers without washing them well first, there might be a little bit in the air from the drilling and dusting hands against each other, but not enough to do any harm unless you did that every day. But yeah consuming lead and breathing in lead dust is how most people get sick by it, handling it's not much risk.
@tonyST2477 жыл бұрын
TAFishing thanks for the reply. That’s true, I've never had a glove on when clipping lead on my set lol just old fear growing up in the states we freak out about so much so it's preprogrammed in me lol. again thanks for the reply and good luck with the fish.
@ryannlarge84147 жыл бұрын
In the states you guys eat fish out of just about any water and you're personally worried about a little heavy metal poisoning?
@CertifiedPeanut7 жыл бұрын
Im sorry Graeme but here in Denmark it's illegal to use lead as a fishing weight and you know why. It's a very toxic metal, and I know how much you care about future fish stocks and general health. So why can you maybe make a video about some non-toxic alternatives?
@spiderjockey97 жыл бұрын
Wild Timber Lead weights are still standard practice here in the UK, most tackle shops don't even sell alternatives!

Thanks for the answer Mat668, but im sad to hear that.... I just want the best for the fish and the environment.
@danielkrogh97487 жыл бұрын
hej do it is still legal to fish with lead weight in denmark, it is not legal to sell fishing gear with lead here in dk
@CertifiedPeanut7 жыл бұрын
Well it's kinda the same thing. It's just rare that you see people here in dk using lead weights, thats why I want him to talk about other alternatives... Because it's just wrong in my opinion to use toxic materials in water we all have to share.
@guineafowl80297 жыл бұрын
Spark plugs, nuts, bolts... With a drill press, a grinder and some imagination you can find any number of alternatives. You don't really need to watch a video of that, do you?
