We have a Oster brand toaster oven that is similar to yours, only a little bit larger. It's only 2 yrs. old and suddenly stopped heating up to the set temps. It would only become Warm inside the oven. I went through the same steps as you, basically and didn't find anything wrong with the switch. The contacts were in good shape. Using my VOM (meter), I put the knob back onto the switch and moved it to each click and the meter showed that all of the contacts were working. Using the meter I checked other parts of the electrical guts and it all seemed OK. I put the switch back into the oven and connected all of the wires and before I put the shell back onto the oven, I set the Toaster onto my stove and plugged it in to the outlet and turned it on. IT WORKED!!! The elements turned Red Hot and it made me feel Good. Then I put the shell back onto the Toaster and plugged it back up to make sure that it WAS working OK and it went back to the same problem that it had, before I worked on it...! I never really cared for this Brand of electrical items and I won't go into depth about Why, but it will be the Last one that I purchase. The only reason that I did buy this one, was because it was a good price and it would cook large pizza. A couple working notes: After removing the shell, before I started to remove the control switch, using a 'Bristro Chalk Marker' ( like a white magic marker, for metal or wood work) and marked the position of the switch and after I removed it, I marked the switch's removeable sides so that I wouldn't get them mixed up. I also drew a small square with markers on each side, like the switch and labeled the markers with the wire colors. ...I also took a picture of it, with my phone, before removing any wire connectors. Thanks for the video.

Hello wildleee, sorry to hear it went back to not working. It sounds like everything works, only an intermittent problem which might be a loose connection or something like that. I'd give it one more try... Anyway, thanks for taking the time to write in.

@@planesimple8514 I Did go back to recheck it. I'm a stubborn fellow. I removed the shell and rechecked ALL of the electrical connectors. As you showed that the electrical connectors have a tight clip to them. I checked all of the connectors and at the Top, the temperature control connections...At the bottom is a Blue wire and a Black wire connected. They were tight, but at the Top Blue wire connection, it was loose. I could wiggle the connection and the connecter had the blue color to it, most likely due to arching. I removed it and using my needle nose pliers, I lightly cramped down on both sides of that connector and reconnected it. It Does work Now!!! Thanks Again.

Can we use dielectric grease on the connection clips. I have the similar kind of combination switch 19L OTG which is almost 16 years old. Heating element contact threads are rusted. But the heating is perfect red hot. Recently the timer was gone. The issue was lots of dead insects. Cleaned and oiled it running beautifully. I bake pizza almost every weekend and i could make only 10 inch pizza. I wanted to upgrade with convection 40L . The market is flooded with digital crap which will never work after 2-3 years. Planning to install PID controller with thermal blanket to improve efficiency and temperature. Special thanks to you as I ripped of the combination switch while cleaning.
@planesimple85144 ай бұрын
I don't see why the dielectric grease wouldn't be beneficial. I think it's a good idea and it would keep the terminals from corroding. Now I wish I would've put it on mine. Oh well, next time I guess... Thank you for the idea. And yes, I think the new all electric control boards are nowhere near as robust as the old mechanical stuff. We bought another Oster oven with the electric board and within two years it arced and melted the contact where the power cord plugs in. It melted a section of the thin little trace that was feeding power to everything. I had to go in and solder in a section of thicker gauge wire in place of the trace to bring it back to life. Anyone else would've had to throw the thing n the trash with less than two years of sporadic use. Anyway, nice to see people fixing things and extending their useful lives. Thanks for taking the time to write in.
@Topcoatdetail4 ай бұрын
@@planesimple8514 Dielectric grease or Copper Grease. I meant to ask this , Copper Grease improves electrical conductivity and reduces the chance of arching. Pretty much correct about the modern electronics based oven. Now all companies are switching to contract manufacturing from China, they are simply printing their name on the box. Moreover all ovens have a single box design (bottom, rear) are in direct contact with the atmosphere and the sides aren't insulated, causing electronics to heat up to 200C and failure is inevitable

@planesimple85143 жыл бұрын
Hello Al Gabato, I don't have a link to it. I googled it and can't remember if I bought it from eBay or Amazon. I listed the switch part number in the video description, but here it is just in case: Switch Part Number: FZ31-9 (5 PIN, not 3 PIN). Anyway, there seems to be several versions of the same switch out there. The one that I bought, although it worked, turned out to have a wider range of sweep angle, meaning that the distance from the left-most position to the right-most position was greater on the new switch than on the original, therefore the markings on the oven's face no longer lined up with the switch's stops or detents. That's one of the reasons that I didn't publish any links to the switch I got, because it wasn't a perfect match. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Hello dinoboom, the internal components are shared between a lot of models and brands. Yes, there are parts still available, from eBay, Amazon, eRplacementparts, etc. Your best bet would be to open up the oven and take a look around for suspicious Burt connectors, loose terminals, etc. Then move on to testing individual switches. Try to determine exactly what is not working. Does it not heat up in every mode, is it the timer, it is the temperature control? Please remember that I don't know your skill set, abilities, or tools, so please be careful and make sure you don't mess with electricity if you are not familiar with it. And if you are going to look around, disconnect the oven. Good luck.

Hello Eric B, it should be pretty similar to this one since the principle is the same. I hope this video can at least serve a guide or reference. Good luck.

Well, now I know why my switch only works when I give the knob a sharp hit. The damn switch keeps getting stuck open. I guess you get what you paid for when it comes to cheap chinese parts. Time to crack the clamshell off and see what's under the hood and buy a replacement switch.

We bought a conductin oven 6 months ago. It says it's product number 196753. TSSTTVMAF1. Problem: When you turn it off... it does but a few minutes later it turns itself back on again. Is this something we can fix?
