Easy Toe Alignment on a BMW E46 M3 - You can do this on your car too!

Easy Alignment done right on this BMW E46 M3. The alignment process is simple and can be done with some alignment plates that are cheaper than an alignment at your local shop. Save on tire wear, rolling resistance, not to mention fuel economy (if you are into that!), and a car that is balanced in handling when turning in either direction.

Thank you soooo much. I just did the toe adjustment on my f85 and it's perfectly straight now. I called everyone noone wants to do a toe adjustment they charge for a whole new alignment so I did it myself

This helped me out a ton!! I drive a really low E46 and alignment shops always give me a hassle about not wanting to do my alignment due to the ride height of my car and whenever I do find a shop who will work on it they charge me at least 100$ minimum! I bought the toe plates for around 130$ (pricey but it’s worth every cent, considering it came with two tape measures and a laser level aside from the toe plates themselves ) and now that I know how to do it myself I’m saving tons of money and never have to worry about taking it to anyone else again! Nice job. I use the same Longacre toe plates. Had them for many years and use them frequently. With a little patience and thinking through the process it is possible to get very accurate results. Mike

I checked the toe in measurement and both read good I think it may be alignment with the back because it read half of compared to the front

Thank you so much for this great information and DIY! My E90 M3 has had this problem for years. The steering wheel is pointing to the right. The bottom spook is angled to the left. Hope I explained it correctly. BMW can never seem to straighten it out. I am buying these plates and going to follow your advice. I hope I understand it. I will need to adjust my right front toe. Not my left? Thanks again. Edit: I should move my left front drivers tie rod out?

How do you know that the front right needs adjusting only, and not the front left?

You can adjust either. You are adjusting the relationship between the two wheels, but if your steering wheel is off, go to the side you are adjusting the wheel too.

Yes that's exactly what it means.

You are measuring the toe between the wheels. So any adjustment is directly affecting that. The only thing you have to watch is which way the car is pulling before the alignment and you will have to work on the corner that is pulling. Hope that helps!
