EASY VAN BUILD 80/20 Overhead Locker

I need help..I have a chevy express and want to use 80/20.. how to attach to side wall and ceiling

Hi, do take a look at my previous vlog to see how I fixed my 8020 style supports to my roof and sides. All I can suggest is "let your van talk to you" ....some great advice from George at 'Humble Road' who's worth looking up as he works only with 8020. Look up his channel as you might find something useful. I was fortunate I could bolt through the extruded aluminium and have access to fix with a nut in my vans support structure, if not, I would have considered rivnuts. Hope this may help. Paul

I’ll be selling kits soon and have degree in Architecture and was structural engineer. Been working with 80/20 intensively for 6 years. I know some things about it the manufacturer doesn’t know. Where you located?

George is a retired watch photographer. He knows very little about 80/20 and even less about structural engineering. I am a retired. Structural engineer who used to work for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, where my boss was the number two designer on Sears tower in Chicago, which was the tallest building in the world at the time. Forget, George, my motto is laziness is the mother of invention and a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. George doesn’t follow either one of those principles.

So you copyied George on putting that flimsy plastic to make the curve in the back of your cabinet? do you know how bad of a fire hazard that is if that ever catches fire? it will spread the fire like gasoline and put out toxic smoke

Yes, cracking idea and not exactly flimsy when bent into a prophile. Being a van with plastic trim, wood, lpg, diesel, oil, cooking oil, lithium batteries, plastic coated wires, bedding, clothes, pvc paddle board, plastic storage boxes, etc....I'm perhaps less concerned about those bits of plastic that work an absolute treat.

@@vanlifemyway7806 I mention they are flimsy because thin plastic, especially in a that position with air on both sides, will be much more flammable Just like kindling is much more flammable than a log. I’m sure George has very good liability insurance but dead is dead

@@GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath seriously thank you for your concerns but In the crux of how flammable the rest of the van is, when my alarms inform me to break out the extinguishers, if that fails I'm out of there with my wife, dog and bug out box. With wool insulation and alloy framework, rather than the use of copious amounts of wood, we can but hope there is less flammable product in that van than most and the way this one's being built allows access to all systems with no hidden wiring so hopefully monitoring the condition of my electrics at least will be beneficial. Air pathways have deliberately been designed into this build to vent away the moisture problems associated with our climate and as you rightfully are concerned about, this will do little to contain any flame. The sheepwool used was a consideration in this.
