great motors. honestly the last great chevy motor. i have one in an s10 blazer lunati roller torque cam kept the fuel injection long tube headers till next season. 4 speed auto and 3.42 gears with fairly small tires. 35mpg at city speeds up to 55-60mph back roads is best mileage. highway is about 28-30 mpg at 70-75 its not stupendous but for a vehicle that can run the 1/4 mile in the 12 sec range and a timeless box chevy body thats not a bad commuter car.

Always bowl port! Use ultra magnum chromoly roller rockers they have a warranty! A 3.625" Nodular crank would be awesome. 1.3625" Mahle pistons (with 9.025" deck). 5.85" rods. 10 to 1+ static compression. XR276HR10 cam. Ported AFR enforcer 195cc heads. Performer EPS. Vizard modified and tuned holley. 1.614 to 1 rod ratio= decent for cylinder wear and longevity. A 6.125" rod for 1.69 to 1 rod ratio would be even better. its just awesome.

Watching again a year later thinking about how mine will do. 10:1 old style 350, was a short block that sat in a garage since the late 80's, and it reflects that. TRW flat tops, stock everything else, and a Crane Energizer, .450 lift/218 @.050 on a 106 lsa. I just tore down, cleaned up, replaced rings and bearings, engine had never been ran. Threw a set of vortecs and similar intake to this on it, with summit "ls6" springs and comp 787 retainers. I had around .530 to the seat so I didn't use the offset keepers. Think a 1.6 exhaust valve and blend would help a bunch with the single pattern cam, but it should still make similar power to this, I believe. Sounds good on the stand, now to get the truck on the road.

That’s the 274H06 cam. Nice sounding lumpy idle with that narrow 106 LSA, but surprisingly torquey just off idle, even works with low comp smog 350’s
@HSTvids357 Жыл бұрын
@Scott K it worked great. I actually stepped up to an isky 280 mega, but just because I didn't lose any of the bottom end, and felt I had some room to grow on top. Similar concept, just more duration and lift, and a 108 lsa vs 106. Something about the tight lsa single pattern cams seems to work well mid range. I kept all the lifters labeled by bore and wrapped the cam up, because I will surely find another use for it. Great for a mild engine for sure

@@jjmccloud honestly maybe a little more torque down lower. these heads love gulping air down at low rpms. yes they stall at higher rpms but they dont stop flowing they just dont get gains from flowing at that point. they still flow more air just nothing else is left to be had without affecting the torque down low. with added displacement and flowing on the heads and a proper torque cam for the engine it would make tons more torque and a bit more hp while still being super streetable unlike all these cammed out screamers with high stall convertors. youd end up with big block torque in small block package. but you must use splayed caps from a 2 bolt block. the vortec bottom end is weak for small block builds. 2 bolt is mainly what youll find 4 bolt is a no no. weaker block and less meat for the mains too. 2 bolt is strongest block and splayed caps are stronger than a proper 4 bolt. with a very mild setup you could net 500-600 ft lbs of torque under 3k rpms. and still have 400-500hp no questions asked on the top end. a motor that just pulls rips off idle and just keeps getting better.
@jacobnorth86427 ай бұрын
@@chehystpewpur4754i wouldn't call a 4 bolt "weak* sure if you want to spend on the machine work to take a 2 bolt to splayed, great. Because it will be used for work M-F I want to retain decent MPG & drivability but want a little more power. This cam seems to really fit what I am looking for. My question is what kind of HP & TQ number would you expect when putting this cam in my mostly stock truck along with the following upgrades: * 1" intake spacer. * K&N intake kit with pipe, filter housing & filter. * Upgraded spider injectors with valves at the end of the injector lines. * Accel coil, plug wires & platinum plugs. * Flow Master 2.5" catback system. NEAR FUTURE UPGRADES: *Complete exhaust, shorty headers & mid-pipe with high flow cats. * Dyno ECU tune (of course, this will be the very last thing i do to it). I know the engine that you put the cam in, in this video probably breaths better than mine and has a more performance minded fuel injection system but I'm hoping to get 80% of the extra HP & TQ that you did. Am I living in fantasy land or is that a realistic expectation? (I know that you don't have a crystal ball but your best guess is most certainly better than mine. Youll have some parasitic loses over this engine but this cam will certainly help with power. Its a mild cam and works well with basically a stock engine. With a good set of headers(go long tubes if you can), a good tune you should notice some decent proformance improvements without a loss in mpg.

Still debating wether i want 2 do a mild build on my 5.7 350 in my 90 obs single cab 4x4 or just stick a base ls 5.3 in it... mild build its my work truck i use it for pulling my pressure wash rig,tank full wheighs over 2000 lbs and i pull my 12' utility trailer with my dirtbikes,gets me anywhere down the muddy trails to my favorite fishing spots..the 5.7s are bullet proof and have good low end torque for everything I use it for but having a few modern ls motors i know the 5.3,6.0,6.2 have better power and torque and way better gas milage..so im still undecided..only thing my 5.7 has is a edelbrock performer intake manifold for a 2 barrel tbi carb and a flowmaster 40 series with 3" piping and it still kills my gas milage i know once i get my 6" lift and 35s on it that is only going to make it worse..which my decision kinda makes me lean over to the modern technology..If I do keep the 5.7 350 my plan is to get a EDBK dual plane air gap manifold with a holly brawler or if i have the extra $ get the sniper efi, some decent heads,mild cam,long tubes and a gud hot msd ignition kit..any suggestions? i appreciate some feed back..thanks 4 the vid

I’m thinking of doing something similar for my 85 k5 blazer that has a 305. I have a older 3970010 block 60 over with flat top 4 valve relief pistons, balanced bottom end, want to put my vortex heads, roller tip rockers, edelbrock performer rpm, best cam for towing Had this motor rebuilt but has a 650 roller with phase 2 bow tie heads with way too much porting was going to put this in a Camaro but getting older and enjoy camping so I wanted to build a nice tow vehicle with 4x4. What do you think about the 60 over with a nice aluminum 4core radiator will it be ok or should I use my other block with stock bottom end. Thanks guys for any advice

This makes me curious what my Vortec 355 is making. It has Keith Black flattops, .020 steel shim gaskets, 10:1 compression, a Summit Stage 3 intake manifold, and a Crane 2032 cam that I had laying around. The motor is pretty responsive with about 35 degrees of total timing. The 062 heads themselves are untouched.

The factory fuel injection and cam are a limiting factor on these engines, but they respond well to a set of headers and a good flowing exhaust system if you're just trying to pick up abit of power.

Long tube headers, heads, intake, new chip, and cam. Make sure you match up the intake, headers, and cam so you have proper lift or it’s all for not. Jegs has some really good people to help walk you through it. If you take out the engine it’s a perfect time to go all out and replace tie rods, ball joints, control arms, shocks, and scrub the frame down then rust proof. Sounds like a lot but it’s all needed. Adding horse power without solid components is dumb, also good time to rebuild the transmission
