This was so much FUN! The 1st one came out great, 2nd one was mediocre. I heard your voice in my head, “do not rip it up!”(from another video), so I kept going. I wish I had found your videos sooner! I love the way that you teach, and encourage us. Please do more landscapes. I watch all the way through first, then I paint along, pausing as needed. You give great tips along the way that I sometimes don’t catch until I have the brush in hand. My technique has improved, and since my painting is just for me, I don’t worry so much about painting the same composition as yours anymore.Thanks so much Kristy.

I have been watercolor painting for awhile (I'm ashamed to say 7 years). I JUST wanted to paint my woods that I live next to and for the life of me they look like a 5th grader does them. I love your style and I love the color combinations, and the ease of managing things with a b/w photo and a sharpie! Thank you, Kristy!

Wow! Love this whole technique of printing a reference photo in black and white and also color, and then tracing the shapes with Sharpie on the b & w one! This technique really teaches you to see the shapes so you can paint any landscape independently. And your description of the three types of color in the foreground, midground and background - I have never heard that before. These paintings are amazing, and it makes me feel much more confident about painting landscapes! I've been obsessed with florals for several months, but this tutorial makes me want to begin landscapes ahain. Thank you!

Thank you for this. I live in southern Arizona and this is the landscape that surrounds me. There are very few tutorials on painting a Sonoran desert scene. BTW, yes, we have a lot of native shrubs. Miss Kristy, You're an incredibly talented human. 🙂 You're an amazing artist - DUH! But not all artists are natural born teachers. I'm not suggesting that teaching should be a requirement or even a goal for any artist... at all. In your case, I just don't even know that you ever had a choice! It seems to flow through and from you. The way you communicate comes across as effortless, yet super effective. Your approach, your style, your methods, your tone, your energies, ALL OF IT! 🎉❤ well...here I am already! I am practicing a little more each day and decided to break out and paint something for my 29yr old son in michigan. he has hair to his hips, a sleeve of all horrifying black monsters and loves the death metal. he wants everything black/white...blah. blah. blah. I think most of it is for shock value (it works a lot 😅!) but I always respect his wishes. so! he wants me to paint a large (36x36?) canvas of a lake/trees like where he lives, but only using black, white and grey. hmmm. I didn't even want to begin to search for direction without seeking your input first. I know when lesson I watched oi thought suggested not using black. do you have any advice? or point me towards one, or TWENTY!, of your lessons as they are truly a gift. thank you again 💛 as I said before, my TBI tends to make me really introverted and quiet ♥︎ but inside Kristy Rice? an EXPLOSION OF JOY that I will forever be indebted to you for. I'm here...A LOT...even if I'm quiet. thank you so much ❤️🩹

I think your florals are beautiful and your “basic shapes” are how you should paint anything that you are trying to paint but I have never heard atmospheric prospective taught the way you are explaining it-with those colors?? It is the effect the atmosphere has on a view wether photograph or painting. It does not change the colors to completely other colors. In A.P. The contrast between the object and its background decreases, and the contrast of the details within the object also decreases. Usually the value of the object will become lighter. The colors of the object become less saturated and more gray. The colors of the object shift around the color wheel towards the background color, which is usually cooler and more blue. Objects closer are darker or brighter and those further away are lighter or softer or not as detailed. They do definitely do not all change to 3specific colors, which is what it sounds like you are saying. Again, your florals are beautiful and so are your other paintings but when teaching others it is important to be teaching correct information. Especially important info such as Atmospheric Perspective to possible beginning artists.
@KristyRice2 жыл бұрын
Oh goodness no I wasn't suggesting the colors are being magically transformed because of the object's distance from a viewer. I specially say in many spots the mountains or foreground "appear" more purple/blue or more yellow respectively. In different words, I've explained atmospheric perspective in my video just as you have in your comment above. So help me better understand how I might be misleading folks here because that is certainly not my goal. Also, and this is INCREDIBLY important. Here I teach concepts in a way that inspires beginning painters to want to know more. I aim to inspire folks to dig deeper into topics that fire them up and leave understanding at surface level for concepts that underwhelm them. I will never teach classic topics in a classic way, here, there will always be a spin. We can go to a book or MANY other KZbin channels for a classic approach :)
