One of the things I struggled with in watercolor was the intensity of colors which I found you demonstrated juicy on dry for my favorite (I like pastels but don't want to paint them). I love the exercise, our teacher did that and we were all like we just want to paint, not realizing those exercises loosened up our brains and bodies to be able to actually paint something. I was one of those in the class who wanted to know and understand ahead what we were trying to accomplish. Many exercises she had us do she did not explain ahead and we were frustrated at not knowing what to do or where we were going, just like A+B=C and you need to know C before you can begin. Thanks for understanding different teaching and learning techniques. I did an exercise on flowers and got wonderful kind comments from friends, can't wait until I am doing better ones.

Cheryl Kristy, I am brand new and have been watching many of your videos. This is the OH WOW!! moment one for me. I hadn’t realized how the water content affected the color AND saturation of the pigments. For the first time I understood how to paint darker or lighter colors or softer colors and bolder colors. Your watercolor set and brushes should arrive Wednesday. So Excited.

My favorite is wet on damp or wet-on-wet. I love watching the different paint colors mixing within each other. Sometimes so much that I forget to paint something and just let it dry. The next day I find a shape, a dollop or follow a line and then create. Thank you for teaching me it's okay just to have fun painting and not worry about not creating.

My husband, now 80, took Bob Ross classes for 15 years, until he turned 70 years. Last July I started watercolor painting, at 69, and he has been my biggest fan, I live in a foster home and my bedroom walls are covered with his beautiful paintings. Whenever he comes to visit he points out places I can hang up my own paintings. I now have two that I've signed, dated and framed. All of you who share your talents with others really make a difference. Please don't stop.

I used to always use soaking wet watercolor’s, that’s what I thought the right way was. I’m shocked that I don’t have to tape my paper down and that my paper isn’t a wrinkled mess by the time I’m done. Wet on damp makes so much more sense than wet on wet. I think that wet on wet is why so many people are scared of watercolor, it’s always been taught wrong. I also love that you tell us the water to pigment ratios, I used to use 80% water thinking I was doing it the right way. I’d soak my page, blow dry, soak, blow dry. The Kristie way is SO much better, thank you!

I love your charts! Mostly because you provide the comparison, but also because you play while you are learning and practicing & point out what we want to look for. These charts aren’t perfect and you give permission to explore. So many so called teachers never bother with the process, just the outcome. Falling short feels like failure. You teach that learning IS success. Also appreciate the terms- i can remember and know what you mean. Your lessons are an immersive delight and welcome play and adventure. Thank you

The reason behind buying some watercolor inks! But you need all the strokes (or not) for a painting. I'm a beginner- & been working on learning brushes, paint to water ratio, with Arches... I've been saving it til I'm better - HA!!! Love the blue, deep green 💙 and coral you mixed also! Please share your supplies sometime & explain why... appreciate all you do! Yes, I love your videos!!! Christy, you have beautiful creamy skin. I recently heard of a system to describe the different types of water/paint consistency. It is the ☕ coffee tea method. There are 5 types of paint/water ratios. The mixtures go from how they look and feel the weakest to the thickest. There is tea, coffee, milk, cream, and butter. I have found this method helpful when mixing paint and water.

I just found your channel today and have watched several videos. How do you decide which technique you use on different parts of the painting? Why juicy on damp in one part and wet on dry elsewhere?
