Awwwwwwww...thanks so much for watching! ...and yes 4 of them grew new growths and the one that didn't has a growth point that could potentially become a new growth. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :)

Sounds like a plan...I will watch your vids and learn how to propagate them.Fantastic....thanks for sharing and happy growing.

Isn't it awesome! If I knew it were this easy I would've done it a long time ago!!! I am hoping that they can come into bloom this year but I am thinking that the ones that grew from back bulbs may take a year or two before they bloom, but you never know...always expect the unexpected when your dealing with orchids...they do whatever they want to do! LOL!
@SHARONSHORTOrchidsandGarden6 жыл бұрын
Now we know how the Orchid nurseries do it!!! Just like you propagated them! awesome....
@PictureMaria16 жыл бұрын
LOL!!! ...and yes, I'm sure that they propagate some that way, after all it is so easy to do.

Hey there lovely lady, we all missed you here. As for the catasetums omg 4 out of 5???? Success success success. Oh waiting on the other extreme propagation updates. Take care
@PictureMaria16 жыл бұрын
...yea this was my first catasetum propagation so to see it do so well really surprised me. It did better than what I expected it to do. The extreme propagation has taken forever and I'm still not really seeing anything...but I won't give up on them yet. They say that it can take several months before you even notice anything.

Maria, Do find you get smaller number of flowers when you split the Catasetinae into single bulbs as opposed having say 5 bulbs?
@PictureMaria16 жыл бұрын
Interesting but it does make a lot of sense when you separate them into single bulb there isn't as much energy to go around and there are many orchids that can become strained or set back. I guess you really have to weigh out what is most important to you...having more blooms or more plants. How did your catasetum propagation fare...were they able to bloom in the same year?
@michaelpye59726 жыл бұрын
The ones I didnt split have flowered but the single bulbs are now just showing signs of a spike. (BTW I bought some flasks from Fred Clarkes last July and one of the has flowered already and he asked me to name it!!)
@PictureMaria16 жыл бұрын
WOW! CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's awesome...so what are you going to name it?

Cyc.Caloundra Dawn and he has registered it already. It is Cyc. Anne-Kathrin Berger x Cyc. Kevin Clarke

Good results for your experiment. Very interesting results. Question: Maria, what medium do you grow your chysis in?
@PictureMaria16 жыл бұрын
Yes I am very happy with the results! ...and I grow my chysis in a mixture of about 40% bark and 60% sphagnum moss.
@patsfreund91646 жыл бұрын
Thanks for answering. My Chysis is currently in 100% sphagnum, but I prefer growing in bark. So now I know that I can go ahead and put it in another medium.
@PictureMaria16 жыл бұрын
Pat Sfreund Yes they can be planted in other media but keep in mind this is a plant that has furry roots and love high moisture. if you put it in media that does not retain enough moisture you will find watering the orchid can become a tedious chore. They will also quickly and extremely wilt to let you know they are unhappy...so keep a close eye on them

I guy in the Orchid group in Facebook is growing in perlite. I might try that in out spring. Last season I had most in spag and some in small bark and perlite. The spag was best by far

Do you remove the dried skins of your pseudobulbs? Because mine's are all white and thick but I'm afraid if I take it, I'll rip them 😯
@PictureMaria16 жыл бұрын
I normally don't...unless I need to get a better look at the pseudo bulb or there is some sort of critter infestation. It can be tricky and a little time consuming removing the sheaths. I sometimes will soak the it in water for easier removal.
