Some information that I did forget to mention is that you are able to sit the propagated stems either vertically or horizontally within the media. When potting propagations within media it is good practice to only mist the media with water never fully soaking the media. I've lost a lot of cuttings because it was receiving too much water to early which caused them to rot away. You only want to begin watering normally when you see signs of growth on the plant, either roots or new baby plants. It normally takes a couple of weeks to about a month before you start to see the new plantlets begin to grow.

Yes its going to be a successful propagation . I lost the variegation of my PP as well and i chopped it off then i saw 3 babies with variegated leaves after few weeks.I am so happy.

@@PictureMaria1 i did everything exactly the same as you were doing in the video. As soon as I saw it, I started to laugh my rear end off, not at you just at remembering my adventure. It was disappointing to me that not only did I not achieve what I was hoping for, but I didn't even get one. LOL. it didn't break my heart, I was not devastated, that's why I said it doesn't mean that I will not continue to try.They were not too wet nor were they not too dry. I worked with them for about 3 months before I just said the heck with it. Do you think it would be okay if I washed the moss with a little hydrogen peroxide and water and just squeeze it out tightly and spread it around and let it dry so it can be reused or should I just throw it away? Love your videos, Your Enthusiasm and your plants.

@laurennycole36622 жыл бұрын
You may know this. I did not so I will say: when a plant grows vertically the leaves get bigger as they climb. If you go to your local nursery you can notice that the leaves at the bottom are smaller and the leaves start to get bigger and bigger towards the top.

Hi there. Really cool video. Crossing fingers! I just did more or less the same with my white princess, that was getting less and less white- 3 pieces had roots so I planted those. The top cutting and one more- I have put into water. Just curious- for what reason do you think it is a better idea to cut off leaves instead of letting them on? I had the idea that by leaving them on (especially in case that cutting has roots already), the plant would be able to get more energy and new shoots appearing faster. Greetings from Slovenia.

I don’t want burst the bubble, but I am sure that for the variegation to continue, there has to be variegation on the stem and leaves. If the variegation is lost its irreversible. Wish you everything best!!!
@PictureMaria13 жыл бұрын
You didn’t burst my bubble because as I stated and showed I have already taken a completely reverted plant with no variegation and was able to produce a variegated leaf...now as far as will it continue to produce...there is never a guarantee even with one that is variegating...the Pink Princess is just one that is known to revert even one that is producing variegated leaves normally. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING!

Why am only#52 for thumbs up...oh its only been a few hours....love PPP! It's my #1 wish list plant. I used to have a P. Erubescens that wasn't variegated years ago and seeing those reverted vines made me misty-eyed. I have had limited experience with sphagnum and my stuff rotted...I definitely think it was too moist. I usually propagate in water. I will have to check back to see an update. Hey! Do you know where I may find out which Philodendrons need a moss pole and which don't? I am always puzzling that one out with some of mine. Lil' Phil in particular. I thought it self-heading but its gotten really gangly. Anyway, thanks for this content.
@PictureMaria13 жыл бұрын
The variegated or the non variegated variety are both very beautiful. The non variegated variety normally will get large very dark leaves when they become very mature. The Pink Princesses are gorgeous plants if you can get them to keep their variegations. But the biggest downfall is that they are known to lose them if you don't maintain and cut them back properly. It can be a stressful plant to have. I am sorry to hear about your rotting experience...I have found too, if the sphagnum moss is too wet it will cause rotting. I made sure to squeeze out the excess water in hopes of preventing that. I will be monitoring them closely and if I notice any issues I will attempt to grow them in another form of media...perhaps perlite. I have found also that just because they say that it is self heading doesn't always mean that they won't grow out of control...and some still will need some support. I have a Jungle boogie that is growing out of control that I may try to stake up. It's really hard to say...but I would stick to the plants that are described as self heading and look more compact and grow more to the side than upwards.

I can agree, although there are some plants that doesn’t seem to mind either or. I’ve had the same results doing it both ways. But in this case it wasn’t feasible with the limited space in the bag and small container and the moisture usually contributes to yellowing leaves and dying off eventually. But you do have a good point.
@PictureMaria13 жыл бұрын
I just read the soil part. Unfortunately I haven’t had the best luck with unrooted cuttings and soil. I’ve had to many rot away. I may give it a try again one day and perhaps even use rooting hormone. Thanks for the suggestion.
