Firstly, hope you're on the mend. Your health is more important than polishing videos .... or bowls. But. Superb job Gary. Both you and Phil have turned plain round bowls of late, and I make no secret my preference is for the nobbly, worty, bark on and uneven rims, but I gotta say if I could turn plain bowls to the quality you two can I'd be absolutely over the moon. You and Phil have taught me almost everything I know on my hobby lathe, and small and simple keeps us all grounded now and again despite the enticement of complexities, especially with end products like this. You get well Gary, we're all here for you and avidly awaiting next week's video if you are feeling well enough, love from the UK.

Thanks so much Richard. Small and easy can be fun and I have lots of pieces that are on the rugged side. That said next weeks is also on the easy side with a twist that makes it not so easy. Part of the reason was I was making a sign for our church. I will post a picture of that next week. So I am doing fine. The reaction from the meds is like a bad sunburn. The pokey part not fun but we know what caused it and I will not be taking that stuff again. Even though it seems to be the most common. Thanks for asking, Gary

Gary: What happened to your old Harbor Freight right-angle drill? When you started sanding with that De Walt, I had to check and make sure I was watching the right channel.
@ThePapa1947Ай бұрын
Thank you for asking James. I still have the HF drill. After my ankle surgery I decided it was harder to avoid the cord and I would have to tuck it away which made it harder to use. And I also like the ease of cordless. My other drill set is cordless but not right angle. Thanks for watching and asking, Gary
@thomaswheeler5900Ай бұрын
I noticed a couple of weeks back that you got that Dewalt right angle drill for sanding. How do you like using it? What battery are you using? I have a Milwaukee M12 I have been using, and it seems to eat my batteries up rather quickly.
@ThePapa1947Ай бұрын
I really like this Dewalt drill. Works great and is easy to balance and the good thing there is no cord. I use the Dewalt batteries and the one I have is a 20 volt 3 AMP. Seems to last a good amount of time. I did order a second one just to have. We have some garden tools that are cordless. They use the same batteries but the tool and the batteries are inexpensive ones from Amazon. Those batteries are working good in the leaf blower and the weed wacker. They will fit my drill but I prefer having dedicated batteries for it. Thanks for watching, Gary

Hi Glen and thanks for the suggestion. So not trying to make excuses but what should be cut out of this video? I sure try to keep them from being long but it is not as easy as it seems. At least for me. I am always open to suggestion so let me know how you would have done it. Then there are beginners who like to see as much as they can. Perhaps they do not have the experience that you have and want to see as much as they can. Don't take me wrong I would love to be able to do 15 minute videos. Next week should be shorter as I made one even more basic than this one but with an added technique that most do not do. Pretty much all my hands were willing to do. Hope to see you next week. Gary

I watched the entire video again making a note of times for major operations. First thing I noted is the video was actually shorter than I first perceived. My concern was for two areas. Shaping the outside and hollowing the inside. They still seem a bit long to me. The outside consisted mostly of long push cuts that appear pretty much the same to me. Hollowing demonstrated two or three different cuts but could have been made shorter in my opinion. Perhaps I am being too picky. But repeating the same thing more than three times makes me lose interest. I have been a subscriber of yours for quite a while and I rarely lose interest in your projects. I know that I am a majority of one a lot of the time so if my comments go against the grain please ignore me and keep doing the good stuff. I would love to meet you but I am in Florida and it's a long way to Oregon. Maybe at a symposium some where. I attend SWAT every year.🙂🙂

We can watch, no need to strain your voice unnecessarily

Thank you Dave. Well I have been told to shut up and just turn. Or too much talk and not enough turn LOL Not stopping while turning is how you miss a chance to refine the design. I do appreciate your concerns and there will not be a lot of talking on next week's which I just finish. Gary

Don't take me wrong, your commentary while turning is a large part of why I like your channel, I was just thinking about your hoarseness.
