Good job Caleb. Caleb's Dad, enjoy this time with your son, they grow up fast.

So true. Feels like we brought him home from the hospital yesterday. Kid's freaking 9 years old already, will probably start his flight training in 3 years. It's happening far too soon and I for one am not ready.

Great! You need to get Mr. Caleb on side with the advertising though, Josh. Certainly this Skokie DOES have lots of presence in the air, but the necessity of doing the tail mod would be an impediment to some, I mean even if you don't fit a DT, presumably you would still want a knock off tail, as is traditional with cabin models like this. Nice one Family Finn! 🌟👍

Great video. I used to fly with the original FAC club in Connecticut a million years ago and, at that time, trimming was different than it seems to be now. It would be great if you could explain a bit about how you decide on each of the trimming steps. A trimming flow chart would be great! Also great to see your kids actually doing something tangible rather than living a totally virtual existence.

Every time I see you and your kids flying rubber models it makes me want to fly them too! Too many other airplanes and rockets to build myself, but it looks like fun!

I flew many rubber bands models 65 years ago. So last year I bought a rubber band airplane for my older brother for his birthday!

Fantastic flights, excellent hand launches…maybe there was a run for some ice cream after all those retrievals 😃

Really nice build, Caleb. I'm liking the durability. Watching y'all adjust to varied flights, testing and all, was pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.

I just wish they'd adjust the plans to show a one-piece stab. Otherwise it's a great kit.

@@joshuawfinn On mine the way it is with upper and lower cross pieces I just have a slat piece through the fuselage and slide each piece on them.

Caleb did a superb job of covering! So much better when I was covering Comet kits (WWII fighter planes, but that's what I wanted.) in the late 50s to early 60s! I like how the flights improve after earh adjustment. I have to see this vid several more times to understand all the flight adjustments! What was the total number of winds for the last flight?
@joshuawfinn

Last flight was about 900 turns. That motor is good to at least 1500 so it's got more to come. Caleb does get a lot of supervision in covering. It's not easy and I'm trying to teach him the right habits starting out to save him from the mistakes I made growing up with no real instruction in stick and tissue.

What prop did you put on it?
@aeromodeller1
@aeromodeller1 3 ай бұрын
He said it was a Japanese Paulownia prop. These were popular before the war and were often found in kits. Some were imported after the war, but plastic props soon replaced them. They are no longer being made. Paulownia wood is from a Japanese tree, it has a fine texture like basswood. International Model Products (IMP) imported them and trademarked the name Paulowina. Note the letters n and i switched. The plan calls for a 10" prop. I happen to have one. It is close to helical (constant pitch) with P/D 0.89. The Skokie was designed in a period when wood props were readily available and before plastic props. The noses were longer to accommodate the weight of wood props. The fins were larger to balance the more forward prop. Use of a plastic prop would likely make the plane nose heavy.

It does have presence! when I get left wing tendencies I just watch more Fox News! A shim probably works better though!
