Bedankt voor het maken van deze video's. Het is heel nuttig om te luisteren naar mensen die normaal praten terwijl ik Nederlands probeer te leren. I’m American-my dad’s side of the family is Mexican and my mom’s is predominately Michigan Dutch. My dad was the youngest of 7 and the first to be born in the USA, so I grew up learning Spanish from his side, English as a matter of course, but never really got Dutch from my mom’s parents. As I research family history and study Dutch in an effort to connect with those ancestors, I keep finding little words or phrases that I thought were just silly family saying, but are actually Dutch! My mom would always say, “oh you have a ‘pleeshee’!” If i had a lint or a fuzz on my clothes as a kid. Come to find, it’s a “pluisje”, not a secret language… just Dutch! I would love to explore the Netherlands, especially now that I know where some of my antecedents came from. I’ve been through Schiphol at least 6 times, but never got to explore the country. All the Dutch people I’ve met have been memorably kind, open and warm. I’ve traveled a lot. One of my favorite countries is Japan. I’ve visited there four times and enjoy the food, the refined culture, the friendly and hospitable people, the language and more. It’s even better once you get out of the cities. I always say I love Gunma, and people are surprised. People in the little towns that aren’t used to foreigners passing through will take their time to get to know you and I’ve had some great experiences there. I HOPE to visit the Netherlands very soon! Thank you again for these excellent videos.

Vooralsnog van alle landen waar ik ooit geweest ben is Tsjechië mijn favoriete land. Mensen zijn wat aan de introverte kant maar altijd heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam. En gezien ik zelf ook redelijk introvert ben matched dat goed. Het is niet perse een land waar je in 1 dag 10 nieuwe beste vriend maakt, maar het is wel een land waar je gewoon lekker je ding kan doen en contact KAN maken als je daar behoefte aan hebt, maar het moet niet. Los van dit alles vind ik het landschap ook nog eens heel mooi en vind ik het klimaat (tempraturen vergelijkbaar met Nederland alleen heel veel minder wind) erg prettig.

Mijn favoriete land is Denemarken of Frankrijk. Ik kom uit Denemarken, en ik denk dat ik woon in een heel geweldig land met een goed welzijnssysteem. Ik hou ook van Frankrijk omdat ze heel lekker eten en drinken hebben. Parijs is mijn favoriete stad!

Knowing some German (and being a native English-speaker) are not as much help in learning Dutch as I would have hoped. Dutch does not sound much like German. And why are Dutch gutturals so much more juicy than German ones?

In welke regio van Nederland zegt men eigenlijk "ajuus"?

"Ajuus" komt van "adieu", wat zoveel als "met God" betekent. Vergelijk ook het Duitse "Grüß Gott!". Het wordt in het oosten van het land gebruikt. Het is dan ook niet verrassend dat het veel lijkt op "tschüß". 😄
