I was so shocked when you mentioned only reasons about Deutschland to learn German. Sorry but this is not the only country who speaks German, you should open your mind a little bit before saying things like that.
@jonathanswinsburg77165 жыл бұрын
@@Wawruto If you insert the country you have in mind in place of Germany, then maybe it would work better for you. If you listen closely to what she is saying, it is not giving you specific reasons, but rather encouraging YOU to find YOUR OWN reasons. These reasons will vary from person to person. Hope that helps. Viel Glück!

Hello and thank you for your videos. I think most people can't deal with frustration and anxiety and that is a problem when you're learning a new language as an adult. Because you think complex sentences you use everyday, but when you want to express those ideas in the L2, you suddenly can't even say "Yesterday I had a coffee with my friends" correctly, in a way it´s like being a baby again. So many people just quit. I've studied English all my life, I am a certified English to Spanish translator, and yet I learn new words and concepts every day. If you understand that learning a language is not like winning a video game (I agree with you idea of the sinuous path), but rather a beautiful way to discover a new culture and its people, then you will enjoy since the moment you learn to say "Hallo". Now I am very excited because next week I will start a German course and your videos are a great inspiration. Greetings from Argentina!

There are actually verb-preposition pairs in English which alter the meaning of the base verb. They function very much like trennbare Verben auf Deutsch. Example: to turn to turn around to turn away (can have several meanings, including to refuse service to) to turn up to turn off to turn on It has surprised me that I've never found any coverage in English grammar texts of these verb+preposition pairs. The pairs are similar, but have distinctly different meanings from the base verb by itself. When I point this out to my English-speaking students, I think it has helped them to accept and learn the trennbare Verben

There are a lot of things in English that are similar to things that "only" exist in German but seem to fly under the radar because we do the exact same thing but separate the clause into several words. To quote Gegard Mousasi: "Same shit, different toilet".
@ismaelcebrianmarco72886 жыл бұрын
Rob Shearer these verbs are normally called "phrasal verbs" and when you learn English as a foreign language, you definitely learn them as a grammar topic (and then as vocabulary, again and again). In my experience most English speakers don't know almost anything of the grammar of their own language. I always wonder which topics are covered in an English class when you're native.
@ismaelcebrianmarco72886 жыл бұрын
Rob Shearer also it's true that trennbare Verben and phrasal verbs are similar ( at least in the sense that the meaning is totally different from the standalone verb, but trennbare Verben are not always formed by a verb + preposition. For example: kennenlernen

I've been learning German on and off since I was 16. After 2 years of high school German and 1 year of college German, I went to Germany at age 18 for about 7 months, and 2 months in German speaking Switzerland. Since then, I continued with many college German courses over the years, and now I'm watching your videos. Had I not actually gone to Germany, I really doubt that my German would be anywhere near the level it is today. I've gone back to Germany and Switzerland for a couple, short-term travel visits before and after having kids. And now, thanks to videos like yours, I'am able to continue improving and maintaining my German. I'm 65 now. Occasionally I run into some older, native German speakers here in California, and to my amazement, they have "lost" much of their German speaking ability. John aus Kalifornien

My biggest motivation of learning German is music. German music made me realized that German was a very beautiful language. My favorite German musicians are Die Lochis und Kayef. They make German Language sounds so very beautiful. Everytime I feel frustrated learning German, I listen to their songs and my frustation is decreasing. Then I started to watch German Movies, only some are good. But yeah because of those, I keep learning German. If someone only has self-purpose like study or work, it doesn't really help keeps you going. "Love" the language and the culture is the key. Or I might say "Learning German by heart".

I'm 54 - American - and I've always wanted to learn German, but always thought it would be too hard, so I learned French and Spanish instead (I also took a year of ASL, and a semester of Japanese). Now, I have plans to visit Germany in the next year or two, and I am determined to to speak German semi-decently when I'm there. I also just love the sound of German! Funny but true - The thing that got me started studying it was the show "Dark" on Netflix :) ...I am now signed up for a German class next semester and I want to start it with a few skills from the beginning so I won't be starting from nothing, and your videos are the BEST resource for studying spoken German that I've found! I *love* the En/De subtitles, your street interviews, and your spoken language "breakdowns." My tip: I use the KZbin keyboard shortcuts to stop/start/rewind the videos, while I read, listen, and practice speaking. It takes forever to get through a single video that way, because there is SO much rich content, but that's what I do when I'm studying intensely. ...I have made (online) flashcards of certain sentences, and I've also use a couple of different apps for practice on my phone, one that has children's stories in both languages, and audio playback. I'm slowly starting to pick up a few things. ... The tips you give in this video are *very* important, especially the last 2, because it's frustrating when you feel like you're in a race against time to learn it all. When I was in music school, we talked a lot about how progress is not linear, and that working your plan (including rest times!), and keeping in mind your "why" was super important. Nochmals vielen Dank, Cari!!

I hate the way they "teach" us German (I know it's not that bad) and I can't work or practice my German because of this. I kinda hate myself for being like this since I've been twice in Germany and had an incredible time even without speaking German. I know I can do better but I feel like it's against my own values and sometimes I don't even try. And at the same time, I just have to pass this exam. Sorry teenager problems...

My Partner is a native German speaker and makes mistakes in the language himself, especially grammar mistakes using the Genitiv and Dativ cases. This makes me feel better about my struggles but also makes me think I will never learn! :)

Meiner lieblingsfehler is "Spreche" wie "spresche" auszusprechen. Das finde ich total nervig! Easy German du bist ja früh wach.
@austinsays5016 жыл бұрын

Great video for me since I'm at my first attempt to learn German. I speak Spanish and English. I really wonder how you managed to say all that with a smile on you face. You must be have a very calm personality.

Tolles Video!

@starseed21686 жыл бұрын

My motivation: I lived in Germany for 7 months or so as a kid (not related to the military). I even lived briefly with distant relatives. I love the language and the culture. I also miss Wurst mit Senf, and the Pommes Fritz from those little kiosk things. Thank you so much for the wonderful videos!

I can´t speak yet in German, but I loved the thinking about the passive - learning, and the fact that sometimes there are happening things behind your active learning. The thing is that sometimes we don´t notice that, but it´s very interesting and motivating to think in that.

I wish I could give you more then 1 like! The same situation I had with English. After few years of learning and 1 year pause. I thought that I forgot it and couldn't speak at all. Then in short period of studing I became fluent in English. Now is more then few years that I've stopped learning German and can't use it in a real life. This video gave me hope, that it could be as with English. Thank you!
