It's impossible to be disappointed by D and M. And Danai did a terrific interview. One "problem" with Greek is that it is so damn beautiful that one can get lost in the sound and forget to catch the meaning of what is being said. Thanks for all you hard work.

What a mind expanding resource. I tried to study Greek at different times in my life. Phase 1: Vacation Greek where I learned through osmosis all the insults, niceties and restaurant speak but could not truly communicate Phase 2: Mind numbing classes that relied on memorization, archaic methodology and old world texts. Phase 3: the slow Dawning of Technology I became bilingual in Spanish and I guess that was the real linguistic trampoline. I began jumping up and down seeking out ways to enhance my human experience through language acquisition (poetry, stories, movies, music and eavesdropping ) and then slowly I noticed a collective consciousness forming out there in cyberspace. Although Greek was not a popular mainstream language, I could finally find Skype classes and limited online resources. THEN, Kaboom! Easy Greek appeared bringing with it a conscientious and entertaining approach that encompasses not only written and spoken Greek but also includes elements of culture, history, and contemporary society. I shower you with praise for your efforts and your invaluable contribution to the Greek learning enthusiasts around the globe. Bravo!

Happy there was an additional microphone to get some clear sound on those answers. I absolutely love your KZbin channel! It's tons of fun, and informative. I was born and raised in the USA, but have been to Greece many times as a child and teen (back in the 70's... Olympic Airways!). My father (passed away in 2015) is from Patras, and emigrated here in the 1950's and became a doctor in NY. Since I have not been there in decades, I have forgotten much of my Greek, but not all of it. I think I retained some of it by listening to Greek music all this time. I can speak it on a basic level, but get lost with the more advanced words and phrases. I was in Greece a few weeks ago for the first time in decades (stayed at my cousin's apartment in Pangrati, Athens), and many people told me that my Greek is good, but I think they were just trying to be nice. In any case, your channel has helped me 'gain back' some of my ability to speak Greek, and I thank you for that! Keep up the great work!

Another very interesting and enjoyable video. I enjoyed the episode with readings from ancient Greek. Also the one in which I was introduced to the word "brokoloko"! I liked the one for difficult Greek words such as ensynaesthia: better than the English empatheia. One would that an empathetic person was one is governed by his passions. I I I liked the one on Greek music: it made me think of some of my favourite song. The last time I was in Greece was 2001. It was lovely to hear ordinary conversational Greek again. I liked the cat!

@EasyGreekVideos4 жыл бұрын

I love their videos and have learned a lot but in this interview above, they are ruining the Greek language with so many English words: "background"? "proofreading"? "Distract"? "Feedback"? "Editing"? There are words for these concepts in Greek!

We have made a whole podcast episode on precisely this widespread phenomenon: easygreek.fm/33 You are right, we should be trying to find the Greek alternatives as much as possible, and I don't mean this as an excuse, but for some of these words, the English counterparts are much more commonly used in everyday language than their Greek equivalents, "feedback" and "distract" especially. It's how loanwords make their way into languages.

@@EasyGreekVideos Κατάλαβα και σας ευχαριστω για την αληθινή σας απάντηση αλήθεια! It never stops there. I am dedicated to mastering 7 languages.and I see the disintegration of languages as slowly as it may be. It starts with "Hello" and "hi" and "goodbye/bye" and then we hear "Sorry." Then the pause words in English like "so" are used. It will not stop unless there is a conscious effort to employ perfectly adequate words in the host language. Anything less would eventually result in creoles forming whereby a learner of Greek, Spanish, Hebrew or Italian would first have to know English in order to study these bastardized languages. Maybe I will start my own trend moving forward. From now on in my native English I will employ "καρέκλα" instead of "chair" and "γεια σου" instead of "hello" and "goodbye." Όποτε the English γλώσσα και can look like this ετσι δεν ειναι; ;-)

@@sheshbesh1962 I completely get your point, and I applaud your commitment. Look at it a different way: English is just colonizing all the other languages it got loanwords from first! 😁
