When I did this project my common anode for the analog input pins dissolved into the water, this happens due to electrolysis. To prevent this you can use graphite electrodes( pencil leads ).

It will stop working after some time. As electrolysis is taking place at immersed wire ends. Salt will get collected at wire ends and analog pins won't read anything.

can u make it wireless by using Rf modules as they are very cheap and practical bcoz sometimes our overhead tanks are at 3rd or 4th floor. second there should be a manual button to turn on/off motor at any time

You can use it to drive 220V load. Need extra care and isolation. Main circuit will work on 5V

I used 3.3v and set a low threshold on the analogRead, slows down electrolysis. How about a digitalWrite HIGH on the power probe only during the analogRead-ing of the probes?

This will only work in conductive solutions, so pure water will not work, but very nice regardless!

I have adapted this to control the level in the sump of a garden water feature, it uses a 12v valve instead of your pump. It works fine except after the valve has shut when it is full the display goes blank, the system still works but have to turn the power off and back on and the display is fine again.......any ideas as to why this happens??

When writing the program Z is used to compare against, I’ll give you a line of my code as an example: If(I>B && II>B && III>B && IV>B && V>B) //Tank is 100% full Let me explain what’s going on. Firstly B is my Z, I wanted to used B instead. The Roman numerals I to V are the different levels on my tank. The // is used to write a comment that the program won’t execute as code. So you’ll notice that each level is comparing against my value for B, which I have set to 111. I have no reason for setting this to 111, it just works, but it bothers me that I’m using something that I don’t understand. I did consider that Z could’ve been used to have some sort of a meaning along the lines of impedance, and this is where my lack of knowledge might show, I thought that when dealing with DC circuits there is no way to distinguish between impedance and resistance. Although you could use that point to justify its use and say that it doesn’t matter whether you use Z or R; which is doesn’t, I’ve used B. The circuit design shown in this tutorial uses 10kOhm resistors as ‘Pull Down’ resistors I believe? I’m going to try and take some more measurements to see if I can find out what’s going on. With this setup and closed tanks there could be problems with condensation on the tank walls giving false level readings. I'd go with an actual analog distance sensor, such as a Sharp GP2Y0A710K0F, to give extremely accurate readings. This can be connected to an inexpensive Arduino Nano and an HC12 RF transceiver. Then merely send the readings by RF (no WiFi required) to another Nano and HC12 up to several kms away.

Dear EMP tried to replicate your "Automatic WATER LEVEL MONITOR" but I can not. I use an Arduino nano, a 16 * 2 LCD monitor. 1st problem: the relay at start up does not work; 2nd problem: on the LCD it gives me the words "empty tank" and "pump off"; 3rd problem: the writing of the quantity of water in the tank does not come out; 4th problem: how to use A1, A2, A3, A6, A7 outputs as A4, A5 are used for I2C. Looks like you are electrolyzing drinking water. I dont think that is a great idea as you are adding heavy metals from the metal electrodes to the water when current passes through them.
