The eggs in my Aldi have been 98 cents for the last couple of weeks limit three. I have been buying those to the limit each week. We had french toast casserole, egg sandwiches, egg salad, soft boiled eggs on toast, fried rice, egg cups, and I made homemade pasta, and homemade bread. May I ask what state you live in?
@oliviamartini97002 жыл бұрын
Cheap prices, yes, but where is the protein? You'll use half the eggs on the cake mix and then what do you eat? Bread, rice and biscuits. This is why poor Americans are overweight, unhealthy and diabetic. Better to just eat boiled eggs and tinned tuna all week. Definitely keep the oatmeal but you can buy a huge bag of plain for $2 that will last for weeks and so keep an eye on the added sugar.
@redrooster19082 жыл бұрын
@@oliviamartini9700 You're correct. Spend money on protien sources: eggs, beans, peanut butter on apple slices. A $4 rotisserie deli chicken can be good eats for days: wings, drumsticks, diced chicken sandwiches, boil the bones and some veggies for a gallon of soup.

Homemade almond milk is tasty and cheaper and free of carcinogenic carrageenan. Crazy easy if you own a blender. My sis and I both learned that carrageenan causes lymphoma after we switched to faux "milks"...and shortly afterwards the lymph nodes in our armpits swelled up to size of baseballs!! No joke, couldn't even lower my arm it was so huge. This was somewhat terrifying. Quit the "milk" and the swelling rapidly disappeared. Later I learned carrageenan is used on lab rats to give them autoimmune diseases (for drug testing)... I now stick to real dairy only...or make my own almond milk on occasion.

Tbh, the food you made here, people don’t realize that a lot of it is actually really good for you aside from being cheap. Potatoes are nearly a superfood (preferably sweet potatoes if you can afford it) as well as homemade mayonnaise (if made with healthy oils ie avocado oil), eggs are packed with protein. Everything aside from the bread is a good choice on any given day not just for hard times. I lift weights heavily and potatoes and eggs are a huge part of my staple food, admittedly pricey eggs should be organic and clean. Great job with this vid 👍🏻

Amazing job!!! Years ago I knew a young military couple who were so very strapped for money for food,,, when their parents came to visit them from out of state they brought the couple a very large bag of potatoes. Maybe 40 pounds??? and they were grateful and that was their mostly main source of food for awhile.. Another couple from South Dakota the girl made curtains from sheets and dish towels. My point is that you learn different ways of living through other people. These things helped shape my life.... which at the time was a different living life than them....I really enjoy seeing how all people live. It’s a wonderful thing. Great video! People in Maine are having a really hard time right now because it's cold in the electricity bills have gone so high some people are paying $600 a month for electricity and their income is $1,100 a month! It is always better for people to be able to eat than not eat. When people are put into those hard places they have to make hard decisions! Your video gave a lot of fantastic ideas for people. My grocery prices have gone insane. A loaf of store brand wheat bread is $2.78 here! And we have not been able to purchase cream cheese since Christmas time. I picked up some groceries yesterday and watching sales and using digital coupons it still came to $100 and there's hardly anything there. Keep making these videos it's very important for people.

@@TheQuaintHousewife I think it's mostly political. Our big power company was putting in a new power line that they said we desperately needed through our maine woods. The maine people voted it down in the last election. Right after that they started fighting for the right to do the power line in court and everybody's rates when up 60%. They say it's because of the cost of natural gas to run the power plants but they run our power plants off of wood here so it doesn't add up. Our temperatures have been like negative 20 this winter! A lot of people are heating their homes on the heat pumps that run off of electricity. So between the increase in electricity rates and the need to keep their homes warm, they are in terrible trouble. The elderly and the working poor are having it the worst.

Sadly for those economizing Aldi and TJ has so many fresh foods prepacked in plastic. No single apples or oranges. I strongly encourage you to look at local coops to buy loose fruit and veg. Yes, you can buy 1 carrot! It may seem counterintuitive to go to what may be a healthfood store for groceries, but if shopping for health, variety and for one or two it can be your best option. You can buy "pantry" dry goods in bulk so buy only what you will use and not have so much money tied up in bigger quantities sitting on your shelf.

I could do this but only if fresh onions, peppers and garlic is included in these recipes. One of my favorite meals growing up was fried potatoes and onions with scrambled eggs in it.

Soft scrambled eggs…add cream cheese at the end. You won’t regret it…comfort food HEAVEN .

I spent 23 dollars the other day at Walmart and got 3 bags full of food. Grocery shopping can still be done cheaply but you will have to cut out many items that are otherwise very nutritious.

Such creativity! Just had scrambled eggs, hash browns and toast for dinner. With eggs, you always have a meal. I eat alot of egg salad.

I love these videos! I thought it would be interesting to show you what this exact grocery haul would cost in my neck of the woods right now, Northern Ontario, Canada. We're in the dead of winter, which comes with increased costs on any fresh food due to the need to import it from further away, and we're definitely feeling the effects of inflation, too. The grocery prices are from Walmart, which has the same parent company as Aldi to my knowledge. These prices are relatively comparable to the prices at other budget grocery stores in my area. If I were to split the list between 2-3 stores, I'd save about $2, but that's not all that reasonable anymore with the price of gas here, currently. Here's the breakdown: 10 lbs potatoes - $5.97 Cream Cheese (250g) - $2.47 Whole Wheat Bread - $1.77 4 Bananas - $1.16 2 Dozen Large Eggs - $6.14 Cucumber - $1.97 Total is $19.48 CAD, which converts to approximately $15.28 USD.

Aldi is usually cheaper than Walmart. BUT the Great Value mac and cheese is the best - and the Great Value Roast Beef (sliced, in a tub) is great! Canned goods a greater value at Aldi for sure and produce usually quite cheap.

Learned on another channel that to make sour cream, take plain yogurt and drain it over a cheesecloth overnight in frig. Also, Aldis has cream cheese usually under a dollar.

This was an awesome budget challenge and has inspired me to check out the new Aldi’s store in my area. I think that by replacing one dozen eggs with a head of cabbage (or some spinach) and an onion would have been a great way to add more flavor and nutrition. I would have added cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches for breakfast or lunch. Baked potatoes with some cream cheese, chives, parsley and perhaps a but of cubed cucumber would have been delicious. Next, a soup with potatoes, spices, cream cheese, and a bit of onion would have been a nice addition. I agree that potatoes and eggs are a fantastic way to bulk up a budget. Great video.

Potato soup with the cream cheese… add water and chicken bouillon from the pantry or other seasonings for the broth. I love potato soup!

That toast breakfast sounds really nice! I always think of cream cheese being savory but I know it goes into sweet cheesecake too! Well done on ten dollars! Would be very hard to do but it's good to have some ideas! I think the dinner potato will be good even not on a budget! X

I would have made potato soup for the lunches, but I have dehydrated onions and garlic granules in my "pantry" plus instant soy milk so I can have a creamy potato soup.

Egg salad sandwich would have been a possibility too and could also do French toast as a breakfast, lunch or dinner option 😀 I loved the cream cheese, honey and cinnamon option, I'm going to give it a try! I loved seeing all the meal ideas you did. So many options for eggs and potatoes to make it feel like you aren't eating the same thing over and over. Here in Ontario, Canada it would run us about $20 for what you bought. Groceries are really expensive unless we can find a sale at a store nearby.

This was fascinating! I often do £10 at Aldi or Lidl challenges, though I've never filmed one. As a vegan I swap out the eggs for peanut butter and baked beans. £10 gets me: 5 lbs potatoes, a 1 lb pack of pasta or rice, a jar of peanut butter, six apples, five bananas, 4 tins of 400g (sorry I don't know the Imperial measurement - about four fifths of a pound each tin?) baked beans in sauce, 20p salt, three loaves of bread, a cabbage (or carrots)and a cucumber (or lettuce). I know that everything except petrol is more expensive over there, and I think you did really well! I'd be eating toast with PB for breakfast, toast or rice/pasta with baked beans, lettuce or cuke plus a fruit for lunch, and dinner would either be a stew of potatoes, cabbage or carrots cooked in some oil from the PB jar or some baked beans sauce. Another dinner would be pasta or rice with stirfried vegetables or just the lettuce or cuke added, and some PB sauce. It's not sustainable forever but it gets you through the week with some nutrition!

Maybe cream cheese/cucumber sandwich? Or some salsa(pantry) on the egg for some spice! Your creativity with food is amazing!

Hi there. Viewer from Canada. Noticed your prices are very comparable to mine. I would have taken the larger oat container since I could grind it into a flour. I do like that you did not take rice. Also were there sweet potatoes or yams in discount cart? Keep them coming.

You could make a gravy with a rouex or a hollendaise sauce with the egg. You also could mix the egg variety up with poached, scrambled, fried over easy, over hard, hard boiled, etc. I of course don't know how to cook all of these things 🤣😂🤣 but thought of the Canadian fries with gravy as an idea even tho I have never had them. Also a potato soup or mashed potatoes with the cream cheese to make it creamy and added protein

Oh wow the poutine idea is genius. If you can't find cheese curds, then just grate some cheddar.

Thank you for sharing menu items on the cheap. What about beans and rice? That would give you some protein. Would you consider them to be staple items? You get hungry faster if you don’t eat enough protein. We frequently eat cooked rice with beans and salad items on top. Aldis has a nice cheese sauce in a jar. We make a non- dairy cheese sauce because of lactose intolerance. Some green onions and maybe olives if you have some. If you don’t have time to make some rice, then use corn chips with beans and salad on top.

Hi Anne Marie. Rice and/or beans are part of some of my budget challenges, but I try to vary it for my audience. They are very good staples to have as part of a balanced diet!

Kind of makes me think of the Walking Dead series and how tough it was on the characters thus doing whatever was necessary to find a meal and even water for the day. Perhaps a future video can show how to remove and process seeds from vegetables to start a garden.

@@TheQuaintHousewife Actually, if it was $40 for a month then $12 for 25lb of rice and Maruchan Beef Ramen Noodle Soup 24 Count / 3 oz for $5.79 with the remainder going on dried beans and peas, and economy cereal and oatmeal. I first thought of these types of scenarios back when people were concerned about computers not being able to flip from 1999 to 2000. Some did very well selling dried food items playing into people's fears. I won't even comment on this covid thing.
@maryrancourt24672 жыл бұрын
I second this idea. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Tomatoes, winter squash, dried beans and peas come to mind. And seeds from the spice aisle. Just make sure the greens are edible before growing.
