Flashback to a time when dollar tree items cost $1 and dollar tree carried eggs 😂. But this had the most creative ideas and great tips for mixing flavors and it actually covered enough calories for a day. Trying the cornbread recipes for sure. Good tip to use oil and water for milk. I’m hoping the eggs will come back.

You could add 2 to 3 cups of cooked rice into that frypan of cooked ingredients with the last dish, and it would serve up to 2 to 3 people. It would nice to see at the end of the challenge what ingredients you have left. As the the 2 pound bag of rice and maybe some of the other ingredients will last longer than a week. Thanks for the help and ideas in this video.

I bought the muffin mix a couple of weeks ago but haven't made it yet. Many , many years ago I lived on home made fried rice because it was a week before payday. I had it for all 3 meals each day for that time and was grateful for it. That was back in the 80s, before there were dollar stores. I did have a small Mom and Pop grocery store up the street from my apartment that carried produce and had bulk bins which were wonderful for a single person. A pound of bulk rice then was maybe 35 cent a pound, if that :)

@@TheQuaintHousewife It was really healthy too. It had a little chicken in it, veggies, eggs, a little soy sauce...it really was delicious, hot and filling. I just used what little I had in my tiny kitchen back then. The experience taught me a lot. Another time back then ( I was only in my very early 20s) I had paid my bills and had zero money for food. So, I choose to be happy, and believe things would work out. I cleaned out my one closet of my studio apartment completely to reorganize it, and I found a metal box way back in the corner. I had never seen it before. I know it wasn't there when I moved in. I opened it, and it was filled with coins ! After I counted it it came to $20. I went to the bank, got the coin rolls and rolled it so I could cash it in. That $20 was my grocery money for that week. God saw my need and provided. Another time I was very short on cash, and couldn't afford to take my then boyfriend (later to be my husband) out for his birthday. I was crying as I was going to my car to go to his apartment to at least be with him on his birthday, and what did I find? A $20 bill under my front car tire ! 🥰💐🌷🌵🌺🌞🏜️💗✝️🥰💐🌷🌵🌺🌞🏜️💗✝️🥰💐🌷🌵🌺🌞🏜️💗✝️🥰💐🌷🌵🌺🌞🏜️💗✝️🥰💐🌷🌵🌺🌞🏜️💗✝️

Another fascinating video. I've never been to Dollar Tree. For the last dish I though you were going to make fried rice. Use sesame or coconut oil and saute your green onions. Add an egg or two. Scramble. Add cooked rice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, whatever you have on hand. Add beans, vegetables. You could use a knife to chop the peanuts and sprinkle on top to serve with sliced green onion. Voila!

I would turn it into Chinese without the beans. You would get burned out eating beans everyday or multiple times a day. Lots of nutrition & flavor! Great video!

The rice and hot dog dish reminds me of my son in law from China. His way of making fried rice always includes diced hot dogs He says it’s common in China. Also uses half a bag of frozen mixed vegetables

I always have eggs......... And bread and milk. I just gave a whole bunch of food to my neighbor. I like Kung Pao sauce, I have it with my eggs. It's never in stock at the store, so I order it from Amazon. Thank you so much for this!!!!!!!!! You can always buy composition books at Dollar Tree for cheap.

My roommate and I ate a lot of hotdog fried rice in college. Fried rice is still my go to for using up stray left over veggies and meat. My cousin introduced me to kidney bean omelettes, which are quite tasty.

Personally, having some basic spices on hand have made all the difference in my cooking. It can take a cheap meal and make it quite tasty, ESPECIALLY for rice dishes. My favourites are chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and Italian seasoning (in addition to salt and pepper ofc). I didn't have them all at once, I bought about one spice a month until I built up a solid repertoire.

I love your ideas. I would get the broccoli and skip the sausage. I would skip the salted peanuts and get a can or jar of fruit. The fruit or juice is a good sweetener. Tina
