Saw you on Josh's channel and enjoyed your farm tour. Is the final product similar in taste to store-bought or any better? I like the softness of the butter. I think it would be great for bread or for cutting in with sorghum molasses as a spread. That's an old southern favorite that is nearly forgotten.

Tried this, but I think i may have over shook it. Is that possible to do?

Hi Laurel! It's pretty tough to over shake it when you're doing it by hand... though it's definitely possible to over-do it if you make butter in a food processor/blender. What did the final product look like? The fat should be sloshing around in the liquid buttermilk when it is ready.

@@farmbelly The final product looked like very very very soft butter and it was more off white then buttery yellow

@@laurelmartinez3715 Maybe you needed to shake it a little bit more? It should be really obvious when the fat has separated from the liquid. Also, the color definitely depends on the source of your heavy cream, as well as the season! If the heavy cream came from grass-fed cows, in the summer, when the cows are eating a lot of grass, the cream contains more beta-carotene giving the butter a deeper yellow tint. In the winter, when fresh grass is less available, the cream contains less beta-carotene, causing the butter to be much lighter in color.
