9 months ago I went really high protein (1.2 g/pound of desired body weight) I was so satiated that it looked like a carnivore diet. The weight started falling off and I started progressive, functional strength training, in 4 months I dropped 60 pounds and waist reduced by over 6”. Recently my waist has remained the same, I’ve put 10 pounds on but gained an inch on my arms, calves and thighs and shirts feel tighter across my back and shoulders. I’ve now stopped caring about my weight and judge by appearance, measurements and my strength. You guys nailed it with everything you said in this episode

After discovering you guys, and hearing your message, I took a leap of faith.. no more cardio. I swapped my circuits for traditional strength and barbell training (started with the big 5 lifts). Meat and protein based diet, eating to satiety and my protein goals. It took about 6 months to really see changes, but wow, my body and metabolism transformed. I look muscular and strong, not fluffy. This is very interesting because it seems to explain a lot. When I moved to Philadelphia, stuff happened and I ended up pretty poor. I don’t have a car and I ride a bike to get around (as well as bus and train depending on the distance I have to go). I got a Planet Fitness membership because it’s cheap and with working as a server 40 hours a week, I found I only had time to strength train and I get my cardio from riding a bike and walking 13k-20k steps a day (due to my job and not having that car). I eat a lot because I’m hungry, I love food, and…I’m hungry. I try to eat healthfully but it’s Philly-so some meals are just really high in calories. Somehow I just got leaner, even by eating 2,500-3,300 calories a day (I’m 142lbs and 5’7”) most days. Some are closer to 2,200 and I only go over 2,600 calories 1-2 days a week. When I’m at work, I eat a big meal of usually salmon, rice and steamed vegetables. SOMETIMES I’ll eat junkier food but usually I always sit down and have a real meal. My coworkers who are less lean and larger never seem to eat and always wonder how I’m eating so much. Granted, neither of us know what we eat outside of work. My meals outside of work are usually smaller unless I’m at a restaurant, splurging. For all I know they’re snacking at night (which I rarely do). I’m currently trying to stay under 2,200 calories to get to the upper 130s but my body doesn’t want that 😹 I definitely am NOT going to do more cardio, now. But I’ll never stop bike riding-I just enjoy it.

Found you guys July 2023. Gained 8 pounds in one month, because I dove head first into reverse dieting -- because that is how I roll; all in or all out. LOL Started lifting following your advice: 3x/weekly, major lifts, 4 days of mobility, rotated programs every 3 weeks. Started at 5# dead lift, by December 90#; 30# Back squat, by December 75#; 15# overhead press, by December 45#. I went from eating 2,200 to 2,400 calories daily, dropped back to 1,800 and then really revved up to now I eat 3,000 daily! I am 54 years old, post menopause, 5'4" and needing to drop about 15 to 20# of fat, but in 6 months I have gotten stronger, sped up my metabolism, to the point where I just went through a 10-day cut where I cut 1,000 calories, down to 2,000, and did trigger sessions daily -- as I was a bit burned out and sore, so I knew I needed to reduce volume and let the body refresh. Now, after that rest, I am starting my next 3-week lifting rotation in the 6-12 rep range, 4 rounds, with 4 major moves, 3x weekly, and the other 4 days will be mobility and 2x trigger sessions with bands, and I intend to stay in the 2,500 calorie intake for the next 3 weeks, and then rotate my program and calories, going back up to 3,000 daily, and then rotate 3 weeks cutting, 3 weeks bulking (or actually maintaining, as I still have a bit of hunger pangs even at 3,000). I am very excited for where I am going to go with my body recomposition in 2024. My scale is under the counter, no batteries in it, and no interest in finding batteries to put in it. I took measurements at the start of my 1,000-calorie cut, and I will take them again when I finish this next 3 weeks, and then I'll take measurements every three weeks, but my focus is on can I do one more rep, can I add a couple pounds over the 3 weeks. I'm not even lifting super heavy weights, but my metabolism is revved high! Thank you, Sal, Adam, Justin, and Doug!

The advice you are giving may well work for sedentary individuals and while they may increase muscle mass and loose fat they will do so at the expense of good aerobic and cardiovascular health. I point you in the direction of Dr Ingo San Millan Ph.D. who has done some of the most compressive research into fitness and metabolism and his results and methodologies have proven with his direct coaching of Tour De France winners and multiple Olympic Athletes. To simplify metabolism as being directly proportional to muscle mass is oversimplified. Diets/Macro balance and training plans need to measure Lactate Metabolism, Fat Metabolism, Carbohydrate Metabolism, VO2 max and Metabolic Efficiency. Your approach could and probably will produce individuals who loose weight but are less fit and healthy.

If a dog is fat, you reduce it’s food and it gets skinnier. I’ve fasted for 12 days and lost 35lbs. I’m not listening to a bunch of guys with average builds tell me eating more makes you lose weight. There is NO such thing as starvation mode!

I'm 220lb lean mass. I carry 260-280lbs. My actual metabolism RMR is 1900. There is a metabolic self saving mode. I do have to spike my meals once in a while with a caloric surplus to ramp back up.

The level of nonsense here is insane. No one is losing muscle when they are at 20 percent body fat or even 10 percent body fat when they are cutting. See, if it takes body a lot to put on muscle it will also take a lot to break down the muscle especially if there is a boatload of fat available. Now if that person was at 8 percent body fat and they had shitload of muscle, then yes

This is literally where the old saying came from that said “you can turn fat into muscle” which everyone used to say in school and then people started saying no that’s the biggest bs myth ever. In a sense it’s actually correct. But you obviously can’t just turn fat itself into muscle.

I’m working out, eating less, etc. but the thing is, my appetite is not as big anymore is that bad? I’m have to eat more but my body really doesn’t want to eat. Did I mess up my metabolism?

I’m doing the map15 minutes since the beginning off December and already lost more weight in this short period off time, compare to the compound excursies that i have been doing for 3 times a week for 1 hour. ❤ Thanks for that guys ❤

I am a new listener this weekend 🎉 I’ve listened to 5 episodes (started with Dr Gabrielle Lyons episode)! I appreciate this info…apparently I’ve fallen into this mindset (low cal, lifting 3x week, and daily cardio). I need to rethink my approach. Thank you.

The reason those stories dont make sense to you is because the CALORIES IN VS CALORIES OUT IS WRONG!!!! Its not the "Law of thermodynamics", its about the body's NEGATIVE FEEDBACK LOOP of "Homeostasis", Eat Less = Burn less !! Its not about "Reverse Dieting", its about how the body REALLY works. The body stores fat because of food scarcity. You need to STOP using the "Energy is neither created nor destroyed", this is the first law and it ONLY applies to "Closed systems", The human body is an OPEN SYSTEM, which is why the SECOND law of thermodynamics refutes the Calorie Myth, and Backs up the Eat More Lose more Set point concept. eating "More than you burn" does NOT mean those extra calories ONLY go into stored fat. This is BAD SCIENCE. And Hunter Gatherers do not burn more than we do.

What would you say for someone who is over weight and has yo yo dieted like discussed in the video and is going to increase calories and focus on weight training but also enjoys going for 2-3 runs a week? Can I continue running and increasing my calories more to adjust for that?

Perfect timing; I needed to hear this. I just started lifting heavier, but I also need endurance for riding my mountain bike 3-4 times a week. Need to know which training bundle to get. I’m a 65 year old female, 123 lbs, but since I am getting my protein up, I gained 3 lbs. Really appreciate your content!!

Since you're saying the body adapts by slowing down the metabolism. Then please someone explain HOW DOES ANOREXIC PEOPLE EXIST? How do they lose all fats and muscles if the body adapts?😂😂😂. You cannot beat thermodynamics guys, calories in and calories out is a REALITY. I've done 21 days of water fast and my metabolism didn't slow down, how is that possible?
@NVDS265 күн бұрын
You literally just proved your own point. The body adapts so they don't die, they expend less energy in the day doing normal everyday things in their life and the body uses fats and muscle for energy so they don't die. The body adapts by slowing down all little movement and any exercise throughout the day....

Never have I been challenged like this only 10 lbs to lose that being said 10 lbs used to be easy to lose but not that way anymore. I have to be way more intentional in everything I do. Thanks again so much guy’s ❤️

Thank you 3 for giving me information to rebuild my ability to hit my fitness goals. I've been eating your masterclass episodes while digging deep in other episodes to build a routine worthy of gains needed to crush not only my goals but a fitness competition hosted by a mentor of mine. Amusing, it was first all about the money and I failed horribly; now I've repaired my mentality and congruence issues that held me back and I have you 3 to thank for inspiring me and giving me information to help not only me but others in my network as a BetterHealth ambassador. Need to dust off the books and start studying nutrition and physiology again; a passion that's been reignited getting back into fixing my health. Appreciate you and your team for sharing. I'll see you all soon

I have always eaten a lot generally and am lucky to be tall and I seem to not put on weight easily. Though that is changing as I am getting older , I have always been a cardio person, however over the last year my experience and knowledge around resistance training and its benefits have increased significantly and I have become a complete muscle building nerd. Your podcast and associated podcasts have helped build my knowledge loads. Thank you.
