Is Mutton Chop the Most Underrated Steakhouse Order? - The Meat Show

Keens is one of NYC’s oldest and most storied steakhouses. In this week’s episode of The Meat Show, host Nick Solares delves into the mutton chop, the restaurant’s signature dish, and one that represents a throw-back to a bygone era. “As far back as we have menus,” says executive chef Bill Rodgers of the 132-year-old restaurant, “Keens has served mutton.” The restaurant now serves 500 orders of mutton per week (that’s an average of 71 per day).
Eater is the one-stop-shop for food and restaurant obsessives across the country. With features, explainers, animations, recipes, and more - it’s the most indulgent food content around. So get hungry.

All meme comments aside. You really have to appreciate Nick and the Meat Show. He shows off some pretty awesome looking dishes and actually gives a real honest review on the flavors which is nice. And he helps these businesses by showing off the food and getting people interested in trying it out. Nick and the Meat Show are a blessing to have on YT

Keens is probably my favorite restaurant in New York. I probably went there for the first time over forty years ago-----back when I could legally smoke a cigar after dinner with a cognac. My favorite meal was always the mutton chop. For lunch, quite often, I would eat in the bar which has a must see painting behind the bar. Whenever friends, who don't know New York, ask where to go, I always recommend Keens. Their clay pipe collection is also a must see. Many well known people had their pipe there, and the collection is on display.

When I was a kid in the 1960s, mutton was one of my grandfather's favorites. I don't think I had any since '71 or '72. And haven't seen any in a suburban supermarket since the late 70s. Now for lamb you typically have to go to the Halal market.

I'm happy to see that Nick is wearing a suit that doesn't look like it came out of the lost and found of a circus. It's still not properly tailored (too loose, should be a tighter fit) and his sleeves are too long (he's about 1/2 of an inch off), and the tie is too small for the lapels... but this is a big improvement. He looks presentable, even though it's glaringly obvious that the shirt he's wearing was not pressed before it was taken out of the package.
