Oh god I’m so jealous! Uni is my all time favorite food. Found an amazing spot a ways back and just sat there by the tidepools eating uni for a couple hours- had to explain to the people I was with that it was like if they found some place that had piles of perfectly cooked wagyu beef or pools of 20 year old scotch just laying around for free. 😄

Love your channel! Maybe next you do uni try spreading it on fresh French Bread. I do it on crostini sometimes it's fancier but it like it on the French Bread. The soft bread really partners well with uni. Jocelyn might like it.

dude I wish I watched your video before my last dive. I got about 80 purple sea urchins on 2/1/22, and they were all empty!!!! Took me hours to crack them open and didn't even know the reason!! Thank you so much for the info and I'll dive for them around May time ( I guess that's summer?)

We live near the sea and during low tide you will find different kinds of sea urchins here different size and colors mostly they are red black and green..The green one is much bigger but the black is smaller with longer spikes..

Awesome Uni bowl. If I may recommend, I have also enjoyed a bowl with half UNI and half IKURA (salmon roe) on a bed of rice. I understand is a year-end delicacy in Hokkaido.

In San Diego there is Pariah Brewing Company which in the past has done a riff on oyster stout using uni. Have moved to northern California and wish that they would can this along with a couple of their other beers.

I just paid 17 bucks for two pieces in Denver. Delicious, but MP is dangerous when having sake as well. My grandmother used to drink the uni juice, and sometimes eat a crab that can live inside.

I love uni. Just don't get it much in the Rocky Mountain West. Looks like you could use a bit larger folding knife. The Ontario Rat 1 Linerlock in D2 steel would work well for that

While I 120% agree with doing your part in reducing a problem species.....be interesting to see a comparison between red and purple urchins. I have yet to get a chance to forage for any, and have never tried Uni....I will only try it when I get a chance to get my own, though. I live up in Oregon, will do some research on our local urchins, I happen to have a contact that is an Uni diver...betting he'll be a wealth of information.
