My husband has a slow dementia, is happy most of the time, except when he wants to go out, and is locked in and doesnt understands why he can't go out. Sometimes he is almost normal, but other times, he is very confused. I usually cry after talking to him over the phone. We used to see each other, bu we both have moved, and personal visitation just now is an issue that hopefully we'll find a solution.

My person was recently in the hospital under similar circumstances. For some reason I felt like I was the one getting the blame from the staff for the weight loss, although my person acts almost exactly like this when eating. I was not given any advice from any staff in the hospital or the rehab center. The doctor gave only a few tips weeks later, but they were things that I was already doing. I give my person heavy cream in their food and sometimes a little coconut oil, and also those meal shakes with the meal.

My mom is 95, I give her spoonful of food, she’ll take one or two bites, shake her hand a d say that’s too much, or I’ll get fat or I don’t like it. But then she’ll grab a bottle of Coca-Cola and looks like she’s enjoying that or a strawberry smoothie. We’re just trying everything to get calories in her.

God bless. I've learned not to worry about the spoon so much as it creates difficulty for my mom. She eats with her fingers and does quite well. If the knife confuses her, just remove the unwanted utensils from the area. Make things as simple as possible. I know as a caregiver its sad at first to see your loved one not be able to use a spoon, you just have to adapt for them and relax so eating time can still be enjoyable for them.

There can be some funny things during these hellish times.I take care of mom at home, end stage, just about game over ..last summer I was feeding her..windows open & saying in an elevated voice.."Mom, you have to put your lips on it & suck it really hard" meaning her thick protein shake through a straw.. I looked over at the window & It dawned on me what that might sound like to someone walking by the house.

My mom had dementia, my brothers dudbt tell me til too late. Then blamed for not talking her... I did twice a week BUT SHE COULDN'T REMEMBER . They kept me from her dying and death. They are bastards .

Can I ask, as a senior? Where is this patient's Quality of Life? There is none. So why is she still living. As I have no support, at the first hint of a problem , I'm going to Switzerland or Belgium for assured suicide. We have to rethink all of this.

She also has diabetes, Parkinson’s and problems with blood pressure. Two years ago she had a stroke and I fear of loosing her since she won’t eat 😢

FYI: IF your senior wont shower, place signs stating " showers are good " and they will. I'm 72 and she's 74? For shame on her family ! Adult kids - afraid of being cut out if the Will . All I need is a car, decent dental, a p t. Job ,dates and unbridled sex. Shrinks never talk about how sex helps
