I eat at and review Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse in the West End area of Dallas, Texas. The restaurant is considered to be one of the best steakhouses in the city. In comparison, Y.O. Ranch has more affordable prices for steak than most other steakhouses. Plus, Y.O. stands out with their wild game selection including their famous buffalo filet mignon.

I’m from texas and this was so nice to watch , I love steak in texas ! The unique spices they put in their steaks is a common practice in steak houses down in tx . The true Texan decor really makes it memorable ! Amazing Review 🥩🤠

The only other place in the country that I can compare to the spices you can get on steaks in Texas is New Mexico (mostly the green chile rubs and sauces depending on the place you go to). Of course, you can pretty easily get a similar spiced steak all over the country now to be fair, and if you go to a place that specializes in Texas style BBQ or steakhouse dishes, it's pretty good even then. I went to a spot in Vermont about 15 years ago, had an amazing bison steak like this with incredible seasoning just like I had down in Austin. Hell, they even had a green hatch chile dish there. Amazing you can get stuff like that pretty much anyplace in the country at this point.

My family and I went to Y.O. Ranch for horse riding years ago. We were late (gringos) and had to drive a mile to the ranch itself. They were quite gracious and after the ride they invited us to stay for lunch with all of them. My kids and I loved every minute of it.

Hey James, I'm proud of you buddy. Not ordering that cowboy ribeye had to be hard but you pulled through like a champ. I gotta say, I absolutely loved everything about this one. The interior of the steakhouse looked so cool and inviting. The food, especially that sundae just screamed come and get it to me. I love Bison in pretty much any form. That steak you had looked especially amazing. Perfectly cooked and seasoned isn't easy to do with Bison imo. Any time you can get a decent glass of Cab for 10 bucks, it's a huge win. Yes indeed, I loved this place as presented so well by you. Your reviews are so enjoyable. Straight forward, on point, and with just enough background to make them really interesting. I can definitely eat ribeyes like that in NYC, albeit for not as good of a price, but wild game like that is just not as common here.

The YO ranch is a historic ranch out in West Texas. I pass it every fall out to deer camp. Never knew they had a restaurant in Dallas. Very cool.

As someone who was raised in Dallas, the one thing I really miss is the restaurants. The restaurant options in Dallas are stellar: unfortunately to get to them you have to deal with Dallas traffic which is no treat. Also, people in bison-adjacent parts of the country almost never say "bison;" we almost always say "buffalo." However it was very likely bison, especially given YO's connections to ranching. One thing I would like to see more of in steak houses is mutton and lamb, I noticed that YO's menu was sheep free. To me the flavor of the more woolly ruminants is unsurpassed.

Excellent work James. I especially liked that you held the wine glass properly...by the stem. Too many millenials forget why there is a stem and hold wind glasses by the bowl...so, so wrong...lol. Everything looked quite tasty and am glad you had such a good time eating there. BTW, my Hungarian grandmother always kept bone marrow aside for me when she was cooking beef. I was so honored to have the distinction of eating it smeared on excellent rye bread with just a touch of salt sprinkled casually on top. Wow! Those are great memories. I never thought about using it with ice cream but shall look for it in the future. Thanks and cheers.

Nice Buffalo medallion there, and great prices for a steakhouse. Rarely do you see wild game on a menu. I recall one place, several years ago in Lambertville, NJ, I dined at Lambertville Station Restaurant, and they were selling snake meat, ostrich, and all sorts of seasonal game meat. I was tempted but I opted for the beef tacos !

You should've gotten the wild game mixed grill. Amazing deal. Apparently it was different every day but when I got it last year it was a bison filet (smaller than if you order it separately but not by much), venison chop with au poivre sauce, and quail medallions for around $60.

I am very surprised that buffalo is not on the menu in many steakhouses, especially in Australia. I bet the cattle graziers won't allow it. Once people get a taste for buffalo, the beef steak market will easily fall by 10%. All the best !

I prefer Pappas Bros. The prices and quality are very similar, although the Porterhouse at Pappas’ is two ounces bigger! But, for me, the defining difference is the dinning room atmosphere. YO says Ft. Worth to me.

James, you might think the beef in Texas is cheaper than New York City, but where do you think New York City gets a bee from. The prices of the beef reflect where they have to purchase from, so maybe NYC is getting their bee from Texas. And then of course restaurants have to include a huge markup just to make money. so the whole price per pound for porterhouses $25 then of course they had a huge markup on that just to make money. That restaurant in Dallas is probably getting their meat from a local producer. That’s maybe not even 10 miles away. So of course there beef will be a lot cheaper than NYC restaurants.

Looks great, though I'm confused. YO's porterhouse is big at 24oz but intended per their menu as a large "for 1" portion. Every NYC steakhouse serves porterhouse "for 2" at a minimum, with the per person price right around $75 if not less (e.g., Keens is $138 for 2, and about $60/each for 3). So YO's $75 for 1 is at that level if not pricier. Did I miss something?

You get a lot less meat per person in the steaks priced for two compared to Y.O.'s offering. Although, even at Y.O. most just split the porterhouse anyway, making for a very affordable meal.
