We are spending the next 24 hours, trying British fast food we've never tried before, from chains like Pret a Manger that we've never been to, to trying items viewers have suggested at Greggs, to finding unusual items we don't see in the US at chains like McDonald's and Taco Bell.

For the best fish n chips go to Whitby north Yorkshire. For the best curry experience go to Bradford or Oldham. For the best Chinese food go to Manchester Chinatown because it's cheaper and better than London. Go to Edinburgh or Glasgow for haggis, neeps and potato, or deep fried pizza, haggis or chocolate bars, just inform your cardiologist first. 😅. Go to Cardiff or Swansea or Pembrokeshire in Wales for the famous " crawl" a lamb stew, especially good in autumn or winter and bara birth cake or Welsh cakes with tea. Finally an Ulster fry for breakfast in northern Ireland. Soda bread, white pudding and a pint of Guinness at 8am 😮. Great stuff😂. Too much to do but this list is a small start to seeking good UK 4 nation's foods perhaps 🎉🎉🎉

I used to help out on a ‘soup run’ (we would go out in the evening and serve hot soup and tea/coffee and sandwiches to homeless people). Pret always gave us the packaged food they had left over each day, so we could offer those to the homeless too, so Pret has a big thumbs up from me.

The problem with Pret nowadays it that the prices are outrageous, completely ridiculous. Those almond croissants you show on the counter used to be £1.50 three years ago, and suddenly rocketed to £1.65 pre-covid. Now, as you see, they are £2.50 - and, I think, smaller than they used to be. Stick with Greggs, or M&S take-away.

Top tip - Chicken Selects are £4.09 for 3 (on their own). Instead, order two of the crispy version of the wrap of the day, with no salad, sauce or wrap. They’re made with two chicken selects each. This way, you end up with 4 chicken selects for £3.98, instead of 3 for £4.09.

AND those plastic spoons used to clip into a device used to stir all the toppings into the ice cream (hence "flurry"), but for some inexplicable reason they stopped doing that YEARS ago, and the McFlurry has always been really disappointing since then. That's why they had the lids they did; to stop the contents going everywhere when it was being "flurried".

nah those new spoons feel so much nicer than the old plastic ones with the comically large handles that became square at the top for some reason... @kirstybrown1185
@kirstybrown1185 Жыл бұрын
@@Thurgosh_OG this is misleading. People just read an article and then jumped on it. A single group of scientists, in Belgium, so a big thing to remember is that science is about continually testing. They found that some brands of green cutlery are more likely to have FPAs than plastic, yet they don’t state the brands they tested, which is a basic in testing to show what is the standard. Already you can see by that that plastics do have them, it’s a company choice, again, we don’t know which of these brands they used to study. So a plastic one with FPAs will never break down at all, will just stay as it is, product and the acids, Paper ones, the product will break down and the acids will remain. Both are providing the same, the plastic is just leaving a physical item behind as well. The study was flawed and we have no reason to believe that a plastic company wasn’t behind that study that proved nothing but that plastics was worse and that the standard person won’t understand a medical study and the requirements for an accurate one.

I think "spicy" things here, with the exceptions of currys, tend to be designed to still taste good and a lot of "spicy" things i've tried in other places often focus more on the "wow that's hot" type of reaction and put the flavour second. The big exception to that would be a Phall at a proper curry place, that's basically made for all those people who can't ever get anything spicy enough.

For a short amount of time in the 80s I lived in Eastern Europe in a city that had only one western fast food restaurant. And yes, it was your small town place Dairy Queen. My local english-speaking host had been there a few times and was very excited to show off their local "Diary Queen" restaurant. And that's right - not many people at all spoke English, so my guide had informed everybody he knew that the restaurant was called Diary Queen rather than Dairy Queen ... I can only imagine what the brand managers would have thought.

Back in the 1960s I was paid 2/6d per wedding to sing in the church choir. During the summer it was typically 3 weddings every saturday. So I'd earn about 7/6d. I'd usually treat myself to some fish and chips out of my earning but around 1965 a chinese takeaway opened directly opposite the church. So I'd usually spend a few bob in there every week. I was hooked. In about 1968 I rode my push bike into London to visit my sister. Unfortunately she was out but one of her neighbours took pitty on me and took me in to wait for her to return home. This neighbour then took us down to a KFC and treated me to some KFC, fries and rumbaba. I was blown away as it was so different to anything I'd ever had before. I eventually had to give up on my sister so rode home without seeing her but it was such a memorable day that I'll never forget my first KFC. The 60s was a time of many changes. Fast food was just one of them.

British McFlurrys used to come the same, in a cup with the spoon that fit on the machine and mixed the toppings into ice cream. They changed to toppings on the top and normal spoons maybe 5 years back

@@hannukah812oh…. I used to love going to wimpy with my old grandad. What I really liked, was watching the kids kick the character dressed up as the burglar outside. Poor fella would be trying to cheer kids up, whilst getting kicked in the butt. I was a little sociopath back then. I feel guilty now 😂

Thank god you call Greggs what it is, ie fast food. Seen too many vids from Americans in Britain calling it ‘Britain’s favourite bakery’ which is like calling McD’s a butcher’s shop. Bakery’s are great places where artisans work and you can smell the gorgeous hot bread smell mixed with the yeasty aroma and they have piles of loaves and baguettes and buns and treats and sell fresh yeast. Greggs is great don’t get me wrong, great place for something hot & nourishing washed down with coffee at the start of the day on the move. But it’s still just a place where pre-cooked food gets warmed up. Good tho ;)

Had they run out of the breakfast stuff behind the counter? That’s quite upsetting! Nothing beats their bacon and sausage baguettes!! Also - next time you’re near London or Surrey, you have to try Wenzels bakery… think of it as Greggs but for people who know how to wear shoes.

You guys are adorable! Instantly subscribed! You really cant beat a cheese an onion pasty from Greggs and their bacon rolls are lovely too! Then they just stopped doing it 🙄

Deli counters used to be common but I assume they weren't very popular since they have mostly been phased out now. The only thing Mukky d's has that comes close to a whopper is the Big Tasty which is pretty damned good and I don't understand why they keep removing it for other "promotions". BK (or HJ) Whopper is still superior though.

@@ronnieharford3326 not anymore. A special burger from each is now tenner a meal. McDonald’s have gotten ridiculous. Big tasty with bacon meal was 9.69. A big Burger King meal is 8.99 and they have more offers. Burger King is actually typically cheaper and higher standard. Every now and then I plan a mcds order and then go literally anywhere else. Even the breakfast, £6 a meal. Assuming you’ve not been for a while. It’s not even pretending to be cheaper anymore.

Gregg's is a takeaway bakery famous for it's fabulous Sausage Rolls. I've never been in a Pret a Manger or a Taco Bell, and don't intend to. The healthiest McDonald's Burger I've ever had was in Australia - the McOz burger with so much more salad and a thick slice of beetroot. A double Wimpy and chips, washed down with English Breakfast tea with milk, was something I'd have on a Saturday in my local town centre. That would be in the late 70's when I was still at school. Wimpy burgers were better than Macca's back then, but now I hear they're so so nice. My former local Wimpy restaurant is now a Burger King.
