Eating Chicken Feet at a Sundanese Restaurant 🇮🇩

Spicy chicken feet and crispy eggplant were amongst the many Sundanese foods I tried at this restaurant in Bandung, Indonesia.
Dapoer Pandan Wangi is an upscale local restaurant owned by Mr Clift, who is a fan of this channel and invited me to sample his food. In fact, the food that I ordered were the same items that Indonesia's president, Joko Widodo, ate when he visited the restaurant recently.
It's a very traditional setup inside, with lots of bamboo and wood. The tables are low to the ground and so we sat cross-legged. Very similar to Japanese or Korean style.
Food items I tried:
Terong Raos - It's thin slices of eggplant that have been battered and deep-fried. They're coated with soy sauce and spices. Very crispy and very tasty!
Perkadel Kentang - Breaded mashed potato balls. Very similar to potato croquettes back home.
Ayam Ungkep - Chicken that's boiled, steamed in a closed container and then fried a little bit. The meat tasted like boiled chicken but the skin was all crispy like fried chicken. It's served with a traditional Sundanese sambal sauce that's extremely spicy.
Gurame Bakar Polos - A local fish that was swimming around in the kitchen's fish tank, just seconds before it was fried up for us. It's served with a tasty peanut sauce.
Ceker Bacem - Chicken fingers / chicken feet cooked in a tomato based, slightly spicy sauce. There's not much meat on them so it feels like eating pure fat, but more chewy. Certainly interesting!
Tumis Campur - Stir fried vegetables with bean sprouts and squid.
Es Pandan Wangi - The dessert that the restaurant is named after. It's a bowl with ice, similar to the Korean dessert 'Bingsu.' It includes cendol, coconut jelly and fermented cassava, which has an intense sweetness.
Thanks to Mr Clift for treating me to these local delicacies, and for the ride back to my hotel on his bike. What a guy!

Indonesia has many loan-words and highly influenced by the Dutch, that’s why sometimes you find Indonesian words that are typical and have same meaning with those in English, only they have different suffix, such as English: portion; Dutch: portie; Indonesia: porsi. English: organization; Dutch: organisatie; Indonesia: organisasi.

Your comment got me thinking... television is one of those words that most languages pronounce relatively similar, especially european influenced languages. It got me thinking as to why the word Television is so universal though, even in some african and asian languages... And I figure because it is the name of the initial invention, so its kind of like derived from a proper noun or brand name. That's my theory anyway lol.

This is so great seeing you learning a new language with such great guides. I have never left my country Canada, but I have learned a decent amount of other languages. I am not fluent yet in any, getting close in Spanish. I started with German, moved to Russian, have a basic understanding of Arabic. (Mostly reading, strangely enough I struggle with the actual talking part. Maybe because I have social anxiety and because I don't push my self to use the language I am learning. I live in a lucky place where lots of foreigners come; so I think it's, I just have to be confident and accepting of my fears. I will get things wrong, but I cannot get things right unless I learn what doesn't work. It's great seeing Dale do this as well with Indonesian and having support from guides to teach him the ways of the Indonesian people.

Dale, keep using the way you learned in India when eating with hand, since most Indonesians do the same. You may use left hand as an assist, like for ripping chicken meat, but most of us don't put food into mouth using left hand. But yeah some Indonesians have no problem to eat with left hand like Mr. Cokey.

Looks like a fancy place to dine at. Fresh fish is a big plus though. Enjoyed the vlog.
