Happy 4th gentlemen. The memories are flooding back. Alhambra, the city I grew up in, still allows fireworks to be sold and used. Most cities in the vicinity have banned them. I used to love going with my dad to one of the makeshift stands that would pop up in late June. We'd always get the big box and get extra sparklers, Chinese spinning flowers and Piccolo Petes. Cheeseburgers on the grill with pork 'n' beans (my favorite 4th side), washed down with ice cold Shasta Cherry Cola. Those were the days.

I’m a baked bean side girl doctored up with bacon and onions, with homemade German potato salad, again with bacon and green scallions. Had so much watermelon as a kid at bbq’s can’t eat it but will do a fruit salad with cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries,raspberries,grapes, and blueberries. Like a grilled hot dog with the char, a fat burger with red onions and tomatoes Mayo and ketchup never mustard on a burger, it belongs on the dogs.

Favorite 4th of July side would be a potato salad. Thinly sliced potatoes with a 50/50 mix of Real Mayo and sour cream. Forget what other seasonings might be included but needs to have freshly cooked bacon chopped up for the bacon bits. If it has bacon its gotta be good. If it doesn't have bacon it can't be good. 🙂
