In regards to the intro, I appreciate Ava's assessment but again a clear case of speculation becoming condemnation and then when pressed about the details reply, I actually don't know. Yes ideally a father should be present, but perhaps it's an arrangement that suits them, perhaps him shooting films is the contribution they've agreed. But now you've labelled him a poor father and that's that.

Interesting discussion. However, the culture war debate completely omits that the centre is also an ideology. A lot of issues are assigned to the left when they are actually the centre. The centre fall for the right's culture war bait all the time.

Please tell me that Jon Ronson didn't say that the modern pro-life movement started with the film. Obviously the film made a big impact, but the reason was that the evangelical right was already starting to rally around abortion as a means of gaining political power after being PRO-SEGREGATION stopped working for them. The film is an interesting story and worth discussing, but I really hope Ronson was smart enough not to miss that the movement was, at quite a fundamental level, a response to civil rights driven by white supremacy.
@cipherhex10 ай бұрын
It's been a long time since I listened to the Jon Ronson podcast that mentioned this, but if I recall correctly, he's point was more that while the pro-life movement existed before with evangelicals, it wasn't a specifically partisan issue before the film. There was a freedom of mixed views from both sides. (Quoting some US polling from before, and abortion views being much closer than the totally partisan Dem Vs Rep issue it has been since then). Whether or not, Ronson chalks it all up 100% to the film, or misses some white supremacy causation/correlation, I cannot remember...

There's multiple reasons why a guy wouldn't be around his baby, including the will of the mother and escaping an abusive relationship. I've no idea who this guy is, he might be a monster, but seems a bit poor to speculate on without the facts...
@gabigaj10 ай бұрын
I just saw a couple interviews with him, where he talks a lot about his baby and about how great the mother of the boy is, I didn't even know they weren't together anymore ...
@SamHarrisonMusic10 ай бұрын
@@gabigaj People’s lives are so complex. We have to remember that through a breakup the social and legal default is for the baby to stay with the mother. Without legal action, she defines the terms and ways he can see that baby. Some guys are deadbeats, some are trying to negotiate angry and emotional, even abusive ex partners. We should totally defend women in these situations, but it sounds like we don’t have the full facts here, just speculation, and until the mother is asking for public scrutiny of a situation, I think maybe its a snap judgement :)

If women are praised for deciding to raise their kids as single mothers. And my GCSE Biology tells me that to make a baby. A male is needed for every single one of these babies. A Father if you will. Then Why do you automatically assume all single fathers are absolute cunts? There seems to be a marriage between traditional support for the conservative nuclear family and putting any downsides on "An Absentee father" And all the positives in a split household to "The damn hard work of the mother" So Ava. Which is better? The traditional nuclear family? Or the broken home? Do you think it makes a difference in the modern world if children are raised by one parent or two. I would be interested if you could all talk about your personal experiences. Even though as i understand it the three of you have yet to make that commitment yourselves.
