I prefer going to Poça da Dona Beija early in the am. It’s empty and relaxing. I stay until noon and then go to Tony’s to eat lapas, fresh cheese and cosido! Love this place so much

I have never had food cooked by a volcano or enjoyed water warmed by a volcano. I planned our cruise coming with a stop in the Azores to get a peak and consider going back. After you videos I think we will plan another trip and spend more time. I can't wait to see the other islands.
@HereBeBarr6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, i'm sitting on another Island right now, and it's so different than Sao Miguel. Totally worth more time.

I was in Furnas 2017 and went to the restaurant that served this. We also went to the camp site where it’s cooked underground. Furnas was sooo much fun!

Hi there,I Came across your blog about the Azores and " cozido das Furnas" I am glad you tried it and that you enjoyed it however I noticed that you had it at a restaurant. I can tell you,that if you had had the pleasure of having it at someone's home there would have been a whole lot more to add to that dish.Such as parts of the pig like such a pigs ears, which many people across the world love, the tale,neck bone,the feet, cow's neck bones,chickens feet and so on. I noticed that you didn't specify the different types of potato, in the true tradition, there are three types of potato that go into the dish there are the white regular potato, there is the white/ yellowish sweet potato and then there is the orange sweet potato. Also people will add endo's and this island grows the best endos in the world. I do hope that if you have the opportunity to go back that you will able to have the cozido das Furnas at someone's home so that you can try all the other items that go into o cozido das Furnas(you call a stew, but it really isn't because stew requires that there be some kind of broth or sauce to it to make it a bit runny). The black sausage, as you called it, is called Morcela, many people refer to it as blood sausage. You have a great blog all the best😎

Ooooh! love Cozido which just means "cooked". I had that cozido in Furnas in 2017 once with relatives in their home and another time at a lovely picnic area and countless times in my life growing up here at home made by my Mum and I make it too...soooo good! That red sausage which is called chourico (pronounced showreesa if you're from Sao Miguel LOL!) is the best sausage in the world! You can get it at any Portuguese grocery store or even at most Portuguese bakeries. It's a staple man!

Volcanoes give off sulfur dioxide. That is what creates the strong "rotten egg" odor.

My man. Give lava a good bite, particularly when it's still hot, then try cozido if you still got any teeth left and then let us know if they really taste the same. Pretty awesome comparison, wouldn't you think?
