As a Swede, I can tell you that not /everyone/ loves licorice here, but it's not seen as an odd type of candy. It just has to do with what people like or not, like with everything else. Many types of "gummy" candies that are sweet, come in licorice versions, so it's often an alternative. Basically, when candy comes in different flavours, licorice is usually one. There is a difference between "Sweet" licorice and "Salt" licorice though. But both are just as common. Personally Salt licorice is my favorite candy of all time, but I absolutely hate sweet licorice. I honestly love all the candy that you ate on the show, except the pipes..;
@sykomcawesomeness

Yes, it's true that Scandinavians have an acquired taste when it comes to licorice. I would say that about 80-85% of all here enjoy it. That Tyrkisk Peber candy is an extreme, but all licorice here fluctuates between the sweeter all the way to salty and strong. But yes, the majority of Swedes enjoy the taste. The lack of availability of tropical flavors combined with the readily available flavor of black licorice has lead to the cultural phenomenon that exists in Sweden today. Candies that American taste buds would enjoy more from here would be the fruity bits in Gott och Blandat, Marabou milk chocolate (which is surprisingly made by Kraft), Plopp, Diam, Bilar, the bon bons (little mints) made by Läkerol, Kex, etc. Basically the more sweet & fruity flavors. It's funny you should mention peanut butter. Peanut butter overseas is a joke. The reason they don't like it is because they simply don't have it. There is a factory in China that produces peanut butter under the label of "Skippy", but it's NOT Skippy. It's what we would consider, like, the equivalent to some sort of unsweetened industrial peanut paste. It's so rough that you can actually see the pits of red skin and shell in the butter itself. It's NOT what we consider peanut butter. I have Jif sent to me from the US because of this. Once they try Jif, they usually realize that they've never actually HAD real peanut butter, and what they THOUGHT was peanut butter isn't even close. So I wouldn't say they don't like it. It would be more accurate to say that most of them haven't had it available and what they have experienced was terrible. If you really wanna make a Swede make a funny face, put some French's mustard on their hotdog or hamburger. They're not used to the sourness at all. Most Swedes want what we refer to as "Big Mac sauce", or as they call it "Amerikansk Dressing". They drown their burgers in it. Everywhere. It just stuck here, lol. You have to specifically tell them not to put it on your food here.
@thecooltable9481
@thecooltable9481 9 жыл бұрын
That's all very interesting. The "big Mac sauce" you referred to may not be the same as actual sauce we put on big Mac's here in America. McDonald's uses their version of thousand island salad dressing as "big Mac sauce", which is basically ketchup, mayonnaise, and pickle relish. I don't personally care for that flavor, but it's very interesting that it's so popular in your home.

Hello Stranger! So you're looking at these comments thinking, "But who's right?" Well, I had to google this and apparently Tyrkisk Peber was "made by the Danish company Perelly, which was taken over by Fazer", and Fazer is Finnish! So it originates from Denmark, but it's currently owned and made by a Finnish corporation. ~The More You Know~

My guess is that it's between 60-80% of danish people love liquorice. Link, awesome job on the pronunciation of the danish on the Haribo bag. As always I love the show, and watch it religiously with a friend of mine :)

SweLandsHD Correct if I'm wrong: 1) 100 years ago Fazer family (with German roots) started their business in Finland 2) had a fusion with Swedish Cloetta in the last decade 3) The companies are currently separated

Linn Zwedberg There is actually something called "Red Liqourice" In America.. But Liquorice root's extract which is used in it is black, thus making it black or dark. America just gotta artificialise everything you know.
