I have done this diet for yrs and I never recommended this to people I know. I love it but I am very disciplined. I am very strict on it. I do have cheat meals so I don't lose to much weight. I really enjoy the foods I eat on it. I do take periods of time off of it. I think if people want to lose weight they can do it without being on keto. Healthy choices of food and working out you can achieve the same results.

When you watch old black and white movies, those skinny people were eating butter and drinking full fat milk - especially their kids. They ate a portion of meat. They ate mostly whole grains in breads and crackers, the bleached alternatives were just starting to appear. They ate fruits and vegetables, including potatoes. When they did drink juice in the morning it was in a small “juice glass.” They were just starting to add the processed foods to the stores. Fast food restaurants were just getting started. People drank soda pop as an occasional treat, not daily, and certainly not with every meal. They ate reasonable portions at meals. Snacks were a treat, not a way of life. I believe the diet mentality started appearing more at that time too, but nothing like now. People need to be reasonable about food. No food eaten in moderation that’s from its natural source (the earth) is “bad”. Processed food (not food that has just been blended and/or cooked, but food that has had its structure altered) is bad. They take nutrients out of food and then re-add nutrients. Does that make sense to you? Sure, people who are overweight can lose weight on Keto. Fasting can be helpful too. But to be reasonable: you don’t 100% cut out any food that you have available, you’re not allergic to and that’s basically in its natural state. You just eat it in moderation. There’s a wide variety of natural food on earth, with a wide variety of nutritional value, not to mention flavors that enhance life. Also, why would you do on a “diet” if you don’t have food allergies, don’t need to lose weight and aren’t dietetic? Just severely limit processed foods! God created food for our enjoyment and health. Mankind is ruining it by altering it, and polluting it.

The problem now is that food is plentiful, people are richer money wise and think their money is still not enough! Some foods eaten in excess are bad like potatoes. Processed yes ...are bad. You are talking about the 1950’s - 1960’s even into the 70’s when life was great and my dad sent one of us on our bike to the shop to get one bottle of lemonade any colour and he had half a glass as he was tired from work and we all got a small bit in our little glass. No joke! We shared one bottle among 8 people as a treat once a week or month! Twisties were around then. Life savers cost about sixpence or 5 cents. We had small meals with small chop and three vegies. We had to eat it all. It was potato, peas, carrot. We were very healthy. Slim. We had a small portion of home cooked dessert with one scoop of ice cream from a Streets tin. We kept those tins to use for all sorts of things. I kept letters in mine. We kept shoe boxes. We cleaned out shoes with boot polish. For school I had to clean five pairs of school shoes for my brothers and sisters on Sunday night and that was supposed to last them all week. Life was very different. We rarely ate junk. No frozen or take away. We got 20c on Saturday to buy lollies and the shop was right next door which was extremely handy. It had newspapers, milk, lollies, cigarettes, and useful stuff like candles, mouse traps, bandaids. We never bought biscuits from a shop. We baked them.

I think that most people trying this diet are doing this to try to heal a significant problem. Hardly anyone just feels like going on a more restricted diet. Whole foods is a great idea but cutting out carbs and going into ketosis has special effects that you can't get from eating carbs, even in the whole foods forms.

Can you ask your parent to get you a doctor appointment for a referral to a dietician? A dietician has a college degree (different from a nutritionist) and studies food and diets. They can give you advice and a diet plan that is good for your particular body.

Doesn't recommend keto because it "cuts out many nutritious foods" - just minutes earlier lists them as: grains, whole grains, chips, crackers, starchy veggies, baked goods, high carb fruits, honey, sugar... all of which have 0 nutritional value, cept fruits and starch vegetables (which btw you can still have a little of while on keto).

Unfortunately, this keto diet would flair me into pancreatitis. A lower fat diet with higher carbs that are packed with nutrients (like some of those high carb fruits provide) are you essential to me seeing that my condition causes malabsorption of fats. I don’t eat a lot of meat and I have a severe tree nut allergy, so it would compromise me into eating just a few “safe foods” trying to follow a restrictive high fat diet. So while keto might be right for some people, it could literally drive me into the hospital with major digestive issues. Ppl should work with their doctors to find out what is right for them.

You can't listen to most registered dietitians. They are more often than not woefully undereducated regarding keto, as the recent science that supports the benefits of keto still aren't accepted by these dietitians that are still operating on outdated nutritional guidelines. If you want the real answer to whether keto works or not, talk to the people who have real world experience with being on keto. Especially those who have been on it for a while, as they can better tell you the benefits they've personally experienced, and also proves that keto, when done right, is very sustainable. I've been on keto for two years to treat type 2 diabetes and lose weight. I successfully lost 91 lbs while on keto, and I fully reversed my type 2 diabetes. The weight loss was not a short-term fluke. The weight came off and has stayed off. And my diabetes has been in remission for a year and a half. So when she says there's no evidence that keto actually does work for diabetes, hi, I'm the evidence. And so are thousands of others who have done the same. Two years in, and I see absolutely no need to stop doing keto. There are so many ways to make a lot of our favorite high carb foods into low carb versions. I don't feel deprived or hungry. I don't feel any need to cheat at all. This woman needs to reeducate herself and stop giving poor dietary advice.

@@NexusNinewhat do you eat to don’t make it to boring? I am struggling with new ideas what to eat
@NexusNine
@NexusNine Жыл бұрын
@@ek6744 the key is to understand that there are all kinds of alternative ingredients and substitutes available to us to make keto versions of or favorite foods. I'll go through a few things that I do. Cauliflower. This is probably our best friend when eating keto. It can be used as a substitute for many things. Here are a few examples: baked cauliflower mac and cheese (replace the macaroni noodles with chopped cauliflower). Cauliflower pizza crust to make pizzas and calzones. Riced cauliflower can be used to make Spanish Rice, fried rice, Mexican rice, curry chicken and rice, stir fries, and even a seasoned rice filling for tacos. Alternative flours. I use almond flour, coconut flour, and pecan flour for make my baked goods. Here's a few examples of what I make with them: cheddar bay biscuits, buttermilk biscuits, hamburger buns, doughnuts, cakes, and cookies. Alternative sweeteners. I know some people think all alternative sweeteners are artificial, but their are actually several natural sweeteners that don't impact weight gain or blood sugar. Stevia, Monk Fruit, Erythritol, and Allulose are a few natural sweeteners that I personally use for my baking and treats. You can use them as a sweetener alternative in things even like making your own sweet and sour sauce or sushi rice (also using cauliflower rice). Heavy cream. I use this to make curry sauce, ice cream (with stevia and allulose), chocolate mousse, in a lot of my baking, and even combined with unsweetened vanilla almond milk to give the milk a dairy taste. Turnips. Most people don't know this, but turnips cook similar, and also have a similar taste to potatoes. But they only have 6g of net carbs compared to a medium potato's 35g. So you can use turnips to make french fries, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, and potato salad, where the you substitute the potatoes with the turnips. Bread can be hard to substitute. The keto breads on the market are all junk. They aren't actually keto friendly. But I did find a tortilla wrap that I love called Egg Life Wraps. They are made with Egg whites, NOT flour or and kind of grains. I use Egg Life Wraps to make tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, sandwich wraps, breakfast sandwich wraps, breakfast burritos, slice them up into noodles for pasta dishes, make personal sized mini pizzas with them, dessert crepes, and even lasagna. Pasta is really easy to replace. Like I said, you can slice up Egg Life Wraps to make egg noodles, or you can use shirataki noodles, or palms of hearts, spaghetti squash, zucchini noodles, and cabbage noodles. I prefer to shirataki noodles noodles myself. I know this is long, so I'll stop here. But creativity is the key.

@@Fobol first to answer your question about working while eating Keto. I walk a mile to work and a mile back from work 5 days a week (2 miles a day), and I work a 40-hour schedule actively moving around on my feet. I also do freelance photography and videography on the side. Sure, it's exhausting work, as it would be regardless of the diet you're on, but my energy holds up very well for how active I am. I have more energy now than I did before going Keto. I eat a lot of different things, I just keep the carb count low by using alternative ingredients and food substitutions. For example, I eat French Toast, but I make the bread myself using almond flour and other low carb ingredients. I use a Keto maple syrup with it. I'll eat tacos, but I use Egg Life Wraps for the shells instead of traditional tortilla wraps. I make a low carb tomato basil soup. I drink almond milk with a splash of heavy cream instead of regular milk. It's about being creative with how you make your food. I mean you can start off simple, just some meats that you like with some low carb veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, or kale, or things like cheese and eggs, but eventually you'll probably want to branch out with variety. So experiment.

I follow a keto diet but only while fasting. I only fast for three or so days at a time also, doing a 16/8 fast. See I don't follow it for weight-loss but to encourage autophagy (I'm not a scientist or dietician and that word is probably spelled wrong) where your body cleans out old or damaged cells and uses them to make new cells. Both fasting and ketosis encourage this. For me, a healthy adult of average weight, with no health problems, following the diet long term is neither necessary nor achievable. It could literally unalive me. Omg if I don't love some of the keto friendly food options out there though. Edit:correction of auto correct's incorrect guess.

Is a keto diet good if your a diabetic?
@rachelgarcia1790
@rachelgarcia1790 2 жыл бұрын
Technically, it’s more easily implemented compared to other diets for diabetics, because the sugar and carbs are things they need to keep low anyway. That said, it’s not a very balanced diet and if someone struggles to avoid eating carbs, they’re not going to be able to keep with it long term. And if you can’t keep up with it long term, like any other diet, at some point fatigue hits and that’s where yo-yo dieting happens. I.e. you lose weight, stop dieting, and the weight comes right back.

@@rachelgarcia1790those who can't sustain keto simply just don't know how to do keto correctly. The keto diet really doesn't work for everybody when it's at its strictest levels. However, the keto diet can actually be tailored to work for each individual. It's really only what we like to call keto snobs that push the most restrictive version of the diet. But for people like me, I went with what's called dirty keto two years ago (which I am still on to this day), and I've reversed type 2 diabetes and lost 91 lbs by doing so. I also reversed high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
