Have you experienced any perks or disadvantages as a foreigner?

Generally speaking we definitely get an easier ride but I would also say that we stand up for ourselves (basic rights) in ways that would be unimaginable to your average Vietnamese, and those dealing with us seem desperate to make the situation go away, so we can get what we want that way...and of course this would just further enhance Vietnamese stereotypes of Western Privilege.

Scandinavian here. I generally experience positive attitudes but I make an effort at behaving well and being polite. I don't get drunk and behave disorderly. I have nonetheless experienced passing Grab drivers who spat at me for no reason and a taxi driver who threw a cigarette butt at me, also for no reason. So clearly some Vietnamese dislike foreigners. Mostly the experience is positive. If it wasn't the foreigners would not stick around like we do :)

The perk is, when I go to the ATM machine in Vietnam, I feel like I'm a millionaire with 100,000 bills coming out of the machine, like I hit a jackpot at a casino, then the disadvantage is, when I go to spend these incredible humongous 100,000 bills, I suddenly feel like I'm no longer a millionaire 🤣

Vietnam more modern than Germany? Dude.......are you for real? :)))Saigon is a unique combination of poverty and luxury. You have a luxury store in D1 and a small shop owner behind the corner grilling chicken feet and drinking with friends on the street....So stop the cap. This guy as German as I am Japanese :)) Vietnam is amazing I will be going back soon.

Vietnamese treat white tourists better than theirs own , if they see white guy with broken motor bike they stop and help to fix it for him but not Vietnamese . They smile and try to made friend with the white peoples but not with a stranger Vietnamese … I’m expat live in Australia and visit VN , the Vietnamese are keep distance from us , lots of places we’ve been charged more than local , there 2 price one for local and one for expat but not white peoples . I can see the discrimination towards expat Vietnamese but very friendly to white people .

It’s disheartening to see how foreign privilege is still prevalent in Vietnam, where locals often seem to be treated as second-class citizens in their own country. This dynamic is deeply unfair and reflects poorly on both the culture that allows it and those who benefit from it without question. While I appreciate the open discussion, Skye, I urge you to be more mindful of the narrative you’re setting on your channel. By casually addressing these issues without critique, you risk attracting an audience that may exploit or feed into this inequality. That said, it’s encouraging to see that many young people in Vietnam today are developing greater self-respect and no longer giving undue importance to someone being foreign. To those who come here to take advantage of Vietnam’s hospitality and kindness: shame on you. Vietnam’s warmth should inspire mutual respect, not exploitation.

@@skyetran from a psychological persepctive, foreingers are often more considerate, at least in my own experience. They tend to give compliment to servers and be more engergetic and positive at any given moment, which gives off such a down to earth, cool vibe. From a material perspective, they tend to tips more heavily and even don't ask for change in some cases. These elements create a certain expectation that turns into a feedback loop of which the expats often fulfil their role pretty consistently.

I would love to be my own bank and go to these countries like a Vietnam to do Humanitarian work. But as of now as it stands my investments haven’t come to fruition. So the next best thing is to support someone or perhaps others in the same community in Vietnam on their KZbin channels. Basically from supporting and subscribing to these Rural Vietnamese communities, you get to know their everyday routines and lifestyles. It’s amazing to watch these rural communities, because it seems that everyone are engineers and farmers. You get to see that financially the income of their KZbin channels provides them with material items for equipment and services for building materials, it also supports other local suppliers of cement and concrete materials, bricks and mortar materials, delivery services and machinery.

Vietnam sounds so pleasant, and Skye is so pretty! I'm reading that it is advisable to always be respectful and humble in Vietnam, which sounds like an amazing culture. I am only beginning to learn about Vietnam, but already I think I MUST visit soon. I am a serious Christian, also a former U.S. Army Infantry Captain / combat veteran. I'm reading that Christians are persecuted in Vietnam, and that they're second class citizens. Does the government consider foreign soldiers / Christians a threat or a problem? Would it be possible to find a Christian wife among the Vietnamese and live there together as Christians?

The upside of being a foreigner in vn is being treated well, the downside is getting charged more than locals. Tourists are aware of this but find it hard to deal with imo which is why vn has such poor return tourist numbers compared to neighbouring countries. However, VN is an amazing country that steals a piece of your heart. Once you apply effort to understand the culture, history, language it just gets better and better. It's just hard to break the surface in that sense on a 2 week vacation.

Hey, if so, hook me up with him, please. If come to Bali just to try it out, and to extend my passport. I get my cash from overseas, but for long term stability, agents are telling me all kinds of stuff. Ferocious prices, and stipulations. For instance, for instance, I want to make a KZbin channel to teach Indonesian's how to speak like a native speaker in six months by studying one word a day for ten minutes, and they say oh, no you can't put your face on KZbin. I'd do it for free, but they say oh no you can't do that. And they want to charge me between 4-7 thousand dollars a year for a visa. I've been here for 30 years in schools.

I am learning Vietnamese read write all of it (I have a wonderful Vietnamese teacher and she is native to Saigon and she speaks wonderful English btw ) I can read write and speak the Mexican dialect of Spanish pretty well. I think if a person lives in a foreign country they should know the language or be actively learning it the best they can… I expect it here so I would be quite the hypocrite if I didn’t do it myself , regarding Americans getting jobs speaking English. Well it’s their mother tongue. Why wouldn’t they be hired before others. No disrespect to the German man, but his English is tainted with a heavy accent. Now your students have to overcome that or learn English with that accent and your English is very good, but I even heard the small mistakes. I’m sure you’re a wonderful English teacher. I’m not taking that away from you at all , however It would be like me getting hired to teach Spanish in Mexico over a Mexican . I speak Spanish very well, but not as well as somebody from there. and his comment about Germany is sad and one of the big reasons why I would never travel in Europe he’s not wrong about that. I I prefer the friendliness of the Vietnamese people over the Europeans
