Not gonna lie… as a native Charlestonian, I opened this video ready to be amused with the typical romanticization of my hometown. I appreciate the intentionality and attention given to the architects and engineers of our particular brand of Southern Charm.

I went to Charleston for 3/4 of a day in November of 2021, and I just fell in love with the city. The historic buildings, the cobblestone streets and the Palmetto trees gives it a unique vibe. We also ate a Chubby Fish, and it was an amazing experience there. I'd like to add Hannibal's Kitchen as a must to eat. Insanely delicious Gullah food!

I enjoy this channel and admire this couple's stamina. I traveled solo in my truck all over the country and road-tripping can be a grind. I couldn't imagine doing what I did with another person! I guess with an RV you wouldn't have to rough it so much, but I saved a ton of money and used it on all kinds of gear and equipment.

Slavery was a horrible time in our history. No man has the right to own another man. Just remember, not all slaves were kidnapped. A lot were traded and or sold by their own tribes. So when we speak of slavery we need to also let people know How they were brought here. And not all slave traders were American. The British also had their hands in on it.
@EatSeeRV
@EatSeeRV 2 жыл бұрын
Nearly everyone had their hand in it at that time you're right. Netherlands British many other European countries. But since this was about Charleston we spoke to it's history and impact here in the USA.

Diverting and blame sharing is a way of minimizing our own responsibility. As a child, when I would do something I wasn’t supposed to my mother would scold me for it. My response would be, everybody else was doing it. She would say to me “if everyone went and jumped off a cliff into the ocean would you do that too?“

They were sold by other tribes to be indentured servants. If that did happen it was very few. It wasn't much. That's why the Roman Catholic Church, Spain, Jews, etc apologized for their huge hands in slavery. And usually the ones that were sold by other tribes it was because they were prisoners that usually came into their lands trying to steal or takeover etc. Which in Africa they did not practice Chattel Slavery. If you were a slave to another tribe you were allowed to serve in their army you were allowed to even work in places of government, your children were not born into slavery. And you did not serve more than 20 years and after your years of service you were allowed to go back to your tribe or lands,etc. Furthermore, They did not sell other Africans for them to come to America to be rap**, lynched, tortured, placed on S€× Farms, where you were bred with your own mother, brother, daughter, Aunt, sister, father and whomever just for money. Also those children, men and women were forced to do ungodly $€×ual perverted acts with the whyte men and women that would go to these farms to act upon their deviant behaviors. Their kids were fed to alligators as "Gator Bate, their childrens, childrens childrens, children were also born into slavery. They were also forced to sit in chairs with spikes and beaten bloody until they confessed that jesus was the only god. The men had their genitalia cut off and put into jars and preserved. 🤢 Both men, women and children had their skin removed and used as trophies including made into clothes. Also they had their hair shaved to make chair cushions for stuffing and also coverings. Like I can continue... Show me in History or now where black people did this to anyone... I will wait. Those were my people. The blood of my Ancestors run through me. And I will NEVER forget what happened to them in this SO CALLED CHRISTIAN NATION. I will remember just like we are Forced Every single year(rather we want to or not) to Remember 911, Pearl Harbor, the Holocaust, etc. Things that have nothing to do with me whatsoever. But before you talk get Educated and not in the American Way which pacifies your guilt which I don't understand why you have it. Since you have never owned slaves.

Local here. Great job! Next time you are downtown Charleston, check out Saffron’s desert counter. It is AMAZING. Charles Towne Landing would also be a cool spot to check out. If you go to Folly, the very end has a great walkway to view sunrise & the lighthouse. We usually enjoy breakfast at the Lost Dog Cafe afterwards. Isle of Palms is an amazing place to catch a sunrise as well, & a better place for collecting shells & treasures from the sea. Drayton Hall is highly underrated as a plantation here, but quite impressive. My husband’s favorite shrimp & grits is at Sol Southwestern Grill & Tequila Bar. Their tuna lollipops are AMAZING! If looking for Chinese food, Red Orchids never disappoints, & has been voted best of Charleston so many times. As a volunteer for Shem Creek Fisheries (trying to save the shrinking fleet), I’d just like to ask you to support restaurants that serve local shrimp. Many do not.

I have been to Charleston many times, as it is my favorite city. I have never been to Chubby Fish, but it looked great, so will have to check it out. Even the winters are pretty pleasant in Charleston, but rain and wind are always a possibility, when you only have 3 days. Gor many years I was there from Dec 26- Jan 3rd or 4th, and generally had nice weather will little rain. It is such a wonderful place, rain ot shine, and a foodie heaven, with great history and architecture. Glad you got to experience a Gullah presentation. Nearby Beaufort has a Gullqh Festival in late May. They are fascinating people to talk with, experience their Sweetgrass baskets and enjoy Frogmore Stew.

Agree with Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Green; you pegged Charleston. I have a friend from John’s Island that tells me that since I wasn’t born here, I’ll never be considered native, but since I’ve lived here in the low country for the last 40 years (got married here and raised my kids here) I can consider myself kin. While the history can be troubling the food and the architecture are the real jewels of Charleston. Yours is the best Vlog of Charleston I’ve seen. Thanks.

Thanks you for showing off Charleston! I currently live just outside and thought you might want to know some cool facts! 1 is that its a colonial law that has stayed in effect that inside the city there is to be no buildings taller then the taller church spire (hince no high rise buildings) also much like Savannah GA much of Charleston is built upon colonial GRAVES. Weird fact is most parking garages are built upon grave yards as SC only requires builders to move the head stone and not the grave itself!

As always you did a great job of showcasing the history surrounding where you are. We can only imagine the travesties in which the slaves endured in order for the plantations to be profitable. Sad y’all couldn’t explore as much because of the rain but those restaurants both looked amazing! I swear you and Dennis are mine and Aarons foodie doppelgängers. 😁

I have enjoyed Charleston a few times. The organization I was a part of in college started there. We need to go back and spend more time to experience it all. Did y'all notice the earthquake bolts on the historical homes?
@EatSeeRV

Earthquake bolts, what are those? I bet if we did a tour we would have learned about them! Lol
@lordaca807

@@EatSeeRV they are long rods installed in many of the buildings. This adds strength to concrete and helps protect against failure during an earthquake.

In 1886, one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded on the East Coast laid much of Charleston in ruins.

Alway a great video. Do you have a video of your favorite place to go in Florida, would it be Key West?

We're not personally huge fans of Key West. We prefer old Florida vibes in central and northern Florida. Here's a few of our videos including one of our favorite spots in Florida. Florida: kzbin.info/aero/PLZIxkaC3dXreGkeIVEW86mwKAKAKWanse
