Ah, you can tell this is close to Denmark... Hygge is Danish, for those who would like to know. Fika, is Swedish and here is how a Swede explains it: Fika (noun) is that break you take during the day for coffee or a snack during work/after work/with friends/with family/with relatives/as a date etc... to fika (verb) is to take this break with others to generally be social. And the concoction you need in order to fika is coffee/tea/good bevarage apart from alchohol, something sweet like a cinnamon bun (generally cake or cookie) and another person to fika with. Fika can be done alone, but it's more common to do with others. (I've fika on my own when I'm running errands and need a break, but mostly you will see people fika with others). Fika is such an important thing you will find it hard to be social in Sweden if you don't know how to do it. Your coworkers will come up to you and say "fika" which translates to: stop your work, let's take a break. Fika is also when most of Sweden solve their internal work related problems, because work is quite often brought up as a topic when you are at work and when you meet your other coworkers, they tend to be able to give advice or help you. Fika is also important in order to stay close to friends. Everyone knows what fika is, this I've used when I haven't met someone for a while and I can ask them "Shall we fika" and if they have time, I have never heard a no. Fika is also a very common first date, as it is a social gathering and you get to talk (unlike the cinema). Fika is also important to swedes, as our parents were brought up with it and our grandparents were brought up with it. As a child it was quite common for me to see my grandparents over a fika. Fika is also flexible, it can be done at a café (which there are often plenty of in the cities) or at home. Yes, at home. I've often invited friends home for a fika, which means I bake or buy something sweet, brew coffee and get to meet everyone. If you ever wish to move to Sweden, learn how to fika. We half expect you to, but it's not that hard. Just immensely widespread. Which btw, Swedish baked goods are among the best in the world. So, if you ever visit us come and fika! Sincerely A Swede

@AP-05 жыл бұрын
Your comment made me really understand how fika is a thing in Finland too. Not suprising, we're just a tiny strech of water from each other :) We just "go for coffee" (kahville) and the concept of a coffee break is very important to us. But yes, you're supposed to sit down with a coffee, and a friend, something to eat and just chat.

@Namine19905 жыл бұрын
They talked about sth like that in one of their podcasts. They don't really like that expression "Tourist traps". If the location of the restaurant is awesome, than ofcourse it's gonna' be more expensive, that doesn't make the food less enjoyable. And if someone says you shouldn't drink or eat that because it's a Tourist trap than the only thing you do is compromising yourself of an experience (Like not drinking sangria in Barcelona). Maybe that helps you a little bit :) Unfortunatly I can't remember what episode it was 🤔 But a video or Podcast about the worst restaurants they have been to, would be interesting! I agree :)
@crystalr64615 жыл бұрын
@@Namine1990 Ahh yeah. I remember that episode. I think they were talking about tourist traps in terms of location and food being more expensive. Sorry I don't know the exact term. Like for example, I've seen a documentary where tourists would be offered to buy souvenirs and if they say no the vendor would make be angry and make a scene. Or when tourist will be distracted while accomplices pick their pockets.

@@crystalr6461 No you have the right terminology. I think "Tourist Trap" means something different to different people or people that grew up in different parts of the world. Being an American, living in in the US, I grew up with it being more similar to how you put it, a place that is a waste of time. Like a really tacky place that is nothing but a big souvenir shop.

So..... I'm Italian. And "fica" (same pronounciation of fika) is a slang for vagina. So everything you said about fika is twice as hilarious as it sounded to you.

I loved this! Please don't stress out about the length of your videos I would watch the 17 hours of raw footage you had tbh. Malmö is now definitely on my bucket list when I visit Sweden which should be 2020!!!!
