Spring is just around the corner here in Tokyo, and with the weather warming up, Martina decided it was time to add a bit more to her outdoor fairy garden.
Hop on your bikes: we're going to our favourite family restaurants, then over to Nakano Broadway - a less crazy version of Akihabara but with all the anime, manga, and vintage toys. We'll check out Martina's favourite toy shop and hopefully find a few Pokemon :D
If you want to see more of our house or how Martina's miniature garden has grown over time, check this video out:

Martina! I’m a nurse and also deal with chronic pain (cancer survivor, fibromyalgia, some cervical spine and knee stuff). I’ve been teaching my patients your Build a Ladder technique for coping with illness and depression and they all love it. It’s helped me and it’s helping people of all ages and backgrounds. Thanks for sharing with us all! ❤️

'm a nurse too. I work in an intensive care unit in Poland. We get patients in very difficult condition, some of them learn to breathe again, eat alone or sit down. I often tell them not to give up, they have tried with little steps to build a ladder. Many of them liked the system very much. Martina, your words reach beyond what you could imagine and help more people than you think. :D

Thank you for sharing this. As I was watching this I was wondering if I could be a nurse due to my own chronic illness, persistent migraines and I'm pretty sure I am getting arthritis, it's a part of my genetics and I've started to get symptoms over the past couple of months. I've completed 1.5 years of nursing school and I decided to take a break. Reading your comment inspired me to continue with this journey.

I know that you all have anxiety about these new "slice-of-life" videos, but honestly, they are fantastic. I would not stress about becoming "lazy" KZbinrs or vloggers. These are not that. Truly they are a joy to watch and show a nice slow-paced side that I can relate to as a fellow thirty-something-year-old. The videos are almost familial and make me feel more like a part of your Build A Ladder family. Thank you

That was such a sweet thing of Dan to do! I haven’t kept up with the EYK videos lately, but I’ve been keeping up via the podcast. I really love this new format where we get to see kind of the journey to do things. Like before maybe you would have cut out day 2 for instance, but I like how you put it in and used it as sort of a lesson on why it’s really important to keep going and keep trying. I appreciate it a lot. I love the new garden figurines!

The idea of what is being productive vs lazy is unfortunately so messed up in our society. Not only our physical health but also our mental health is affected by this. Obviously, we need to have days for ourselves and know that is more than OK because we tackled our mental health that day and that can be work on its own. I'm so happy to see you guys out and having a great time together though :) You two are so supportive of each other and I can barely imagine being in a relationship like that.
@vixxcelacea2778
@vixxcelacea2778 5 жыл бұрын
This. To me, I view any laziness as a sign of illness, not "weak will". Why would anyone want to sabotage themselves or feel miserable? I don't believe laziness exists, I think it's a sign that something is off rather than something to judge. The person is in need o help, not blame. I know those days acutely where it's not even "I don't want to" it's "I can't". Take getting out of bed when depression hits hard. Not only is it mentally exhausting, everything in your mind fights doing anything that might help you, but because your brain controls the rest of your body, your muscles literally feel fatigued. People vastly underestimate the toll that mental conditions and state has on the rest of you. It's not a mind over matter when it's the mind being the problem. I can't even imagine having both a physical and mental problem which just cycle each other in a never ending spin of frustration. Martina is probably the strongest person I've ever heard of. Forget lifting contests. It takes a serious champ to do what she does. Then on top of that she feels guilty or something when unable to do all she wants to do. That absolutely breaks my heart. I see enough people I know feel the same way with mental conditions that give massive barriers. It always hurts to watch someone blame themselves or get mad at their disabilities when in reality, I'm just impressed anyone with these garbage issues is just surviving. That in itself is massively impressive, let alone trying to live a normal happy life, that's superman levels of ability.

Martina (and Simon!) are probably the most encouraging KZbinrs I have ever watched. Your positivity isn't forced or fake "everything is wonderful and happy!!!", but genuine and honest. Even though I don't have any chronic pain or illnesses, I find there are always days where I relate to that feeling of being depressed or tired and not wanting to do anything. But to see you picking yourself up, building a ladder, and pushing through helps me to tell myself that I, as an able-bodied person, have literally no excuse to be unproductive and waste the healthy body that I have. Thank you for bringing us on your journey and being vulnerable with us; to see you go through struggles, sometimes failing but often succeeding to build your ladder, is more encouraging than forced happiness for the camera ever will be.

I don't comment nearly enough on your videos, but I am always touched by them. Me and my best friend have been in a rough place this year, and seeing videos like this (where you enjoy life for what you enjoy, run out of spoons, uterus tries to murder you, good support networks, loving s/o, and you still build a ladder) are really inspiring to me and I'm sure others out there in the world. Just, thank you both from my aroace ass and from my best friend s/o (I guess???????) even if he's too shy to ever comment. You two are a highlight of our week every week!

I love that Martina loves stickers and bright colors and other random decorations. I am 40 years old, 41 in June, and I adore stickers, have crazy colored hair, love to randomly decorate my stuff, put pins/badges (whatever you would be most comfortable calling them) all over my purse and bookbag. I don't plan on changing any of that any time soon. It makes me happy, my fiance likes it, and no one else's opinion really would affect mine. So, why not do what makes you happy, as long as no one else is getting hurt in the process.

I've always described my period cramps as someone dragging a knife back and forth in my abdomen. I too curl up in a ball when the cramps get too bad. Sometimes the only relief is sleep, but even then, the cramps sometimes wake me up. I used to feel like I was making excuses when I stayed home because of the pain. But now, since I know the date of my next period I just take it as a day off. I'd rather stay home and not need it than go out and suffer because I didn't listen to my body.

Same. Period and pms pain is a struggle. I get depressed often because...it's a cycle, it never ends. As soon as your body gets a break, that time rolls around again and here I am overdosing on muscle relaxers and gravol just to function like a human and stomach some food. I have some conditions but ofc not every solution works for everybody and it takes time to figure out how best to cope and what works. Sending infinite love and support to you and our sisters like us. Currently expecting my period to start tomorrow, I'm already sorely bloated, cramping intensely, nauseous, can't eat much, on the verge of a migraine, getting back pain that makes any position super uncomfortable and gastrointestinally screwed. Womanhood eh? Lol 💜

I use to get the worst cramps for 2-3 days during my 5-6 day period. As I have gotten older, switched to Diva Cup they decreased significantly. I have an IUD now so it's not n issue anymore. Getting the IUD was one of the best things I ever did. I'm in my 40s and never want to be pregnant and also was told by spine doctor that it be in my best interest to not be pregnant so it works out. Your gardens are adorable!

Yes! My thighs become solid rocks! Moving feels like a death sentence sometimes. I need hot showers and hot tea to help me begin to deal with the pain. Pain killers don't work on me. 😭😭 but I'm a woman, I have things to do. Pain won't stop us.

Hey Martina! I totally understand what you mean about feeling frustrated that some days you can't accomplish "enough" because your body or mind isn't cooperating. Something that has really helped me deal with that is making "to do" lists but making the tasks scale to my abilities for that day. For example, I'll have all sorts of items on my list that some people might find really silly to put on a list, such as "get out of bed", "take a shower", "eat breakfast", "put on socks", "go outside for at least 10 minutes" etc. That way I can still check off lots of "tasks" on my to do list and still feel like I did something that day. I find that being able to check off a lot of boxes on my list (even if the tasks seem tiny) really helps me feel like I've accomplished something, even if realistically I would have had to do those things even without the list. Anyway, sending you lots of love and big hugs!

I'm gonna be honest I cried during your build a ladder video not only because I was seeing you in pain but because I had never really thought of thinking about my chronic pain and EDS that way. It's helped me not miss as many days of school and activities. I love the build a ladder mindset.

I have honestly never had the chance to travel anywhere my entire life... I am 22 years old and have been watching your videos since the beginning bc i loved how you can help people explore the vast cultures of the world. I am so jealous of the world that you as a beautiful and loving couple are. I am at a weird, low, post graduate life where i really don't have anything going for me but watching your videos make me feel happy and feel that one day things really can turn out to where some of my dreams can be made. In the end, I started watching this video thinking "Martina has such beautiful hair and it kills me that its hard for her to accentuate the beauty she deserves bc of an unfair disability that, at points lowers self esteem thinking you cannot even create the beautiful styles you know you could create to express the beauty that you are, and i wanna help her do fun things like that and live the best life with her and her family" It'd be a dream to live a day in this perfect life. just sending love to this beautiful family.

After surgery last year I made a mini build a ladder poster and hung it up somewhere I could see it every day. I added some things that you had said helped you and some personal things that help when I am struggling. I just want to say thank you. Your videos helped give me stength during some really rough times. It's a beautiful thing to see how much you two care for one another during the stormy bits. Keep being awesome to each other. Please don't ever feel embarrassed about sharing your struggle with us, because I know I am not the only one these videos have helped see the light past the darkness. 🌸🌈🎠😍👾

Hi, Martina! I just wanted to let you know that the same day you posted about Building A Ladder, I took it to heart, got out of bed, and walked to the store. It was the only thing I did that day for me. And it started a ripple effect. I'm not beating myself up as much for not Getting Everything Done. I'm not obsessing so hard over my lists that I curl into myself and do nothing. I'm not letting pain and exhaustion and anxiety and depression decide how I feel about myself. I'm Building a Ladder. One day at a time. One rung at a time. Thank you so much, Martina.
